Masquerade

(Dedicated to Brette Woessner A friend til nights shed no light)

Dimly cast, We walk our course Through faces of all shades. Unsure, our lives, Of what well see Or say along the way. You see, were nothing but strangers To ourselves and all the world, Unknowing of foreign dangers Mysterious masquerade of pearls. And in our Ball, a comfort is woven (MADE) Woven from cheap, fabric smiles. (Chambray) And amber glints with subtle hints Will blind us all the while. From jagged hearts not yet broken, Held by breaths left unspoken Soaking souls behind our guise As we drown ourselves in chided lies. Not over wise, deceit denies the true As misconceptions try all we do. So behind our masks we contemplate Pushing and pulling, keep twisting our fate While obscuring trials drown out our eyes And make us sweat at others surmise Til feigning threads fall to foot, (AT 12) Spill us out for all to look. And at that exact moment, The clock is at twelve The days fully gone, Night slips off the shelf. And it bursts at the seams, When our dreams seem so glum, Just to leave us all blinded By a fluorescent sun. Then we stand still in fright Til all grasp at display That day lives in our night As night does in our day.
* Brette, no matter what happens, you always have friends and family to help remind you that life is an anthology of present tenses that can only make you stronger. Live for the moment, love for life. If you ever need anything, think of these people first and youll get through anything. Much Love, Topher
