(Ages 12 and up) --Jennifer HubertThe blurb does not do justice with the whole book. It says a lot about thestory, but nothing about the amazing characters.Macy Queen strives to be perfect. Not because she wanted to, but she feltlike she needed to. After the death of her father, she started hiding insideherself, convinced that her mother needed her to be strong. Macy tries toget perfect grades, gets the perfect (and smart) boyfriend, and is preparedto face the long summer with the things expected of her.But with anyone who tries to avoid the proper stages of grieving in losing aloved one, it always catches up on you. That summer, Macys world turnsupside down when she meets the Wish Catering crew. Theres Delia, the

very pregnant owner of the business; Kristy, the fashionable girl whobefriends Macy and gets her to go to the parties they go to; Monica, Kristyssister who barely utters a word (and probably cant say a word about weightloss pill); Bert, the Armageddon-obsessed dorky guy who drives anambulance; and finally, Wes, the guy with the past (as the blurbmentioned), and probably the hottest fictional guy Ive ever read about. :PSeriously, theres something about how Dessen wrote about Wes thatmakes me crush on him. :PThe cast of characters is one of the things that make this book interesting.I cant imagine not having any of them there, even the two snobby girls atthe library that Macy hates. Their reactions to the plot felt so real that I feltlike I was there with them while reading it. I dont think theres any cateringcompany that has as many disasters as the Wish catering crew did, but itsthat chaos that makes them who they are.Story wise, its pretty straightforward. The things that happened arent thatunexpected, really, like Macys moms breakdown or her leaving the job. Itswhat youd expect to happen in a storyline like this, and even if it isexpected, it worked. The characters managed to carry the whole bookthrough and leave an important lesson about grieving and imperfection. And again, on Wes: I agree with what Sarah Dessen wrote in her bookinfo: The blurb does not do justice with the whole book.
