Z MAGAZINE is an independent mag azine of critical think ing on polit- ical, cultural, social, and economic life in the U.S. It sees the racial, gender, class, and political dimensions of per sonal life as fundamen- tal to understanding and improving contemporary circumstances; and it aims to assist activist ef forts for a better future.  AR TICLES: We welcome unsolicited submissions. Due dates are the 25th of each month pref erably by email to lydia.sargent@zmag.org. Be sure to put the ti tle, author, and address in the article file, not  just the cover letter. Also include a two-sentence biog raphy. Try to keep articles between 800 and 3,000 words. LETTERS: Letters should be succinct and may be edited for length. ZAPS: We welcome SHORT events listings, news releases, etc. Send by the first of the month for inclusion in the follow ing month’s issue. Email to zmag@zmag.org.
