1. Remain calm and stay with student. Medication may be


administered by student if authorized to self-administer or by school nurse or trained medication giver.

2. EMERGENCY RESPONSE PROTOCOLS


Medication is administered as follows:

ASTHMA
GIVE 2 PUFFS OF RAPID-RELIEF (albuterol) INHALER (with a spacer if available). Repeat in 10-15 minutes if still short of breath, up to 3 times. CALL 911 IF student does not respond to IF treatment or IF medication is NOT available.

ANAPHYLAXIS
Inject epinephrine immediately into thigh and hold for 10 seconds (okay to inject through clothing). ALWAYS CALL 911 for transport to medical facility when epinephrine is used or if anaphylaxis is known or suspected.

3. MONITOR THE CHILD AND CONTACT


PARENT OR RESPONSIBLE PARTY.
