ACT 1 SCENE 1 HOTEL BAR11*Preshowkaraoke, offstage, can beheard.It is a Thursday nightbetween *Christmas and New Years Eve.A typical watering hole in a hotel, with a couple of tables. The set isdecorated with tacky decorations for winter and the holidays. There are evenstockings for each employee. On each *table is a candle. There are three *entrances, the front door to the lobbyis open and the music from the hotel’s *other bar-- a karaoke room spillsin. *There is a door behind the bar to thekitchen, and a small hallway to therest rooms. By the hall to the restrooms there is a jukebox.*AVERY, in his fifties, sits at the bar *dressed in a nondescript suit. He sips *a glass ofport.*ZAK, followed by TIRESIAS, enters from *the lobby door. TIRESIASclosesitas *hepasses.ZAK, puzzled, turns to look *for a moment.*ZAK is in his early 20s and stepsbehind the bar. I think I prefer the silence.*AVERY gets up and heads towards the *rest rooms. CADMUS bursts in from the *rest rooms, almost bumping into AVERY.*CADMUS is about the same age as Avery. *He wears an expensive, but slightly *tacky suit.*CADMUS*Karaoke, here I come! Stick around, Avery. Shit is going to *happen tonight! Barkeep, Ishall need a scotch and soda upon * my return!Evening, gramps. Ladies and gentlemen, Elvis has *entered the building!*CADMUS exits towards the lobby.*TIRESIAS watches him go.
