Will villagers be able to
speak at last?
At the May Parish Council Meeting,

David Wright, Chairman, suggested that he would like to see a 15 minute ‘Open House’ session taking place before each meeting to allow villagers to air their

views. “About time too” - all agreed.

The Parish Council meet on the second
Monday of each month in the Fuller
Room at 7.30 pm.

A ‘Surgery’ with Councillors, on alter-
nate Saturday mornings was also sug-
gested. These items will be discussed
further at the next meeting on 9th June.
The Community Centre in
the Summer
Just because summer is almost upon
us doesn’t mean that the Centre
closes down - some of our learners
are eagerly awaiting the results of
their GCSE, A level or British Sign
Language exams.
Plans for September courses are now
well underway. There will be a full
programme of part time day and eve-
ning classes including GCSE’s in law,
english, maths, psychology and his-
tory as well as new language courses
in Spanish, French and Russian. We

are also hoping to offer more leisure- based courses in lace making, wood- carving and art for the terrified. Most courses start from September 15th

onwards.
The programme will be available in
July and you are welcome to enrol at

The rebuilding of Bottesford Village
Hall – also known as the VC Hall – is

progressing well. The roof is on and
plans are being made for the Grand re-
opening Fete on 25th August

- Bank Holiday Monday.

A “Time Capsule” will be located in the
fabric of the building, packed with
memorabilia from some of the groups
who used the old building over many

years.

Belvoir Amateur Theatr ical Society will be including old programmes highlight- ing 30 years of performances.

Other groups represented include: Gar-
dens Association, U3A, Fitness with
Swing, Forget Me Not Club and the WI .

Bookings are already being taken for the new hall - contact Ray Morton on 843362.

Bottesford On-Line
“Bottesford Today” on
www.bottesford.org.uk is a website
that aims to publicise local groups
within the Parish. Originally started to

support the VC Hall (Village Hall) pr o- ject, it outlined fund raising efforts for the new hall

and provided an insight into some of the consultations that took place. I t now charts the progress of the new building.

As a bi-product of this work the
“owner” of the website ,
Norman Robinson, realised that other

local voluntary groups could use this
site to inform local people of what the
group did - and why they were doing

it!
The site, at present, has links to the
Bottesford Environment and Conserva-

tion Group, Bottesford Online (Train Timetables) & the Vale of Belvoir sec- tion of Lions I nternational. A copy of

the Parish Appraisal is also on the site.
Further links will be going live soon,
including Village Voice.
So, if you are on line, why not save it
as a Favourite and make sure you
check it regularly so you know what’s
happening!

Summer Playscheme - for
Children and Adults….
The Community Centre will be running
their popular playscheme from July
28th - 31st, 10am-2pm. Children can
take part in exciting activities including

a hands-on session with a mini zoo,
a drama workshop, I ndian dance and a
visit by the fire brigade. Places are

available on a first come, first served
basis. For more information contact
Bottesford Community Centre 01949

The Centre is also offering courses for
adults at the same time: intensive I T

making or woodcarving. Contact the
Community Centre for more details.
I deas for a Family Day Out
These suggestions have been pr ovided

by one of our committee members who has 2 small children. I f you have any of your own, please let us know.

Belton House – Grantham. A607 –
20 minute drive.
A great place for all the family with the
adventure playground - large enough to
keep them occupied for hours, and a
small railway during the holidays. It
has extensive grounds for walking and
picnics.
Sherwood Pines Forest Park.
B6030 Nr Edwinstowe.
– 40 minute drive.
This is a large forest, with marked
walking and cycle tracks for all abilities;

bikes can be hired or bring your own. There is an adventure walkway and a small playground of wooden toys and, on the shortest walk, (accessible with pushchairs) musical instruments for

children to play with sticks. It has large
areas for picnics and a small café.
Nene Valley Railw ay and Ferry
Meadow s park. A1 – 40 minutes
Sibson – Peterborough.
This is a great day out for everyone;
the children will love the stream train,
and parents can shop in Peterborough!
Catch the train at Sibson Station (sign
posted from the A1) to Ferry Meadows
and have a picnic in the park. Ferry
Meadows has its own little railway,
boats on the lake, horse rides at week-
ends and two playgrounds.

(Not) for Children?
Have you thought about bringing chil-
dren to church but worried their fidget-
ing may not be approved of? Bottes-
ford churches try hard to make all wel-
come and have Family Services and
Sunday Schools and Clubs designed to
appeal to children. For example, the
Sunday School in St Mary’s meets every
2nd Sunday at 10.20am in the Fuller
Room for pre-schoolers and primary
school children for singing, drama and
craft. For more details contact Mrs
Glenda Gibson on 845106. Also a Fam-
ily Service is held on 1st Sunday of each
month with readings, prayers and

songs planned with children in mind. At other times children still play an impor- tant part in services, but toy bags con- taining quiet distractions and a play

area are provided if children do get
restless.
Holiday club in July
The churches in Bottesford run a joint
Holiday Club for primary school chil-
dren - this year it is at the Baptist

Church from Monday 21st to Friday 25th July. Contact Richard Lane on 844311 for more information

Goodbye to Mrs Davies
All at Bottesford Primary School wish

retiring head teacher, Mrs Anne Davies, a fond farewell on July 11th. I t’s likely to be an active retirement. As a keen cy- clist and scuba diver, she intends to

spend more time on the go than with
her feet up. Good luck Mrs Davies for a
long and exhausting (by the sound of
it!) retirement.
Welcome to Louise McGrory, the new
Head, who joins the school from the
beginning of September.
