The regular meeting of the Board of Library Trustees was held at 6:00 pm, Wednesday, May 25, 2011 atthe Petworth Neighborhood Library,
4200 Kansas Avenue, NW, John W. Hill, Jr., President, presiding.

Susan Haight, President, Federation of Friends.The meeting was called to order at 6:02 pm.The order of the agenda was changed and after introduction of all attending, President Hill called for
. He first stated the practice of the Board of Library Trustees to entertain publiccomments at the beginning of each meeting and explained that people who signed their names to thesign-in sheet would have three minutes to address the Board. One member of the public came forwardto describe the renovation at the Petworth Library as spectacular.The next order of business was the
Chief Librarians Report.
Ms. Cooper highlighted items from herreport. She said that several members of the DCPL staff have been elected to positions of leadershiprelated to the American Library Association (ALA) and thanked them for their dedication. She alsomentioned that DCPLs new partnership with the Smithsonians Museum of American History led to a jazz performance for children at every library during April. Ms. Cooper then asked Director of Communications, Joi Mecks, to provide an update on the Georgetown University Project. Ms. Meckssaid that the Library, with graduate students from Georgetowns Public Policy Institute, is working onways to tell the story of the Librarys transformation. Next steps will be how to begin to gather thestories and strategies for telling the stories. Those present also received a report of PetworthNeighborhood library activities from Robin Imperial, Petworth Neighborhood Library Manager.The order of the agenda was changed again:

Approval of Minutes
The motion to approve the minutes of the March 23, 2011 Board Meeting was approved.
Mr. Hill reported that it appears City Council may be putting some money back into the Librarys budget.This may happen based on future expectations for revenues being higher than anticipated but it is nosure thing. He also said that there is still the potential that the city will create a GSA to centralizegeneral services including procurement. There is other discussion in the city about how to fund capitalprojects and this may be an opportunity for us to put some of our projects back on the board, he said.
