NORA DREW GREGORYJuly 27, 2011To recognize and honor the late Nora Drew Gregory for her commitment to and compassion for libraries and education.WHEREAS, Nora Drew Gregory, a native of Washington, D.C. servedwith distinction on the District of Columbia Board of Library Trusteesfor 18 years from May 17, 1977 to January 5, 1995;WHEREAS, Nora Drew Gregory was named to the Board of LibraryTrustees to complete the term of her husband, the late Francis A.Gregory, a former assistant superintendent of the District of ColumbiaPublic Schools and the first African American President of the Districtof Columbia Board of Library Trustees;WHEREAS, Nora Drew Gregory served as President (1992) and VicePresident (1982-1991 and 1994) of the District of Columbia Board of Library Trustees;WHEREAS, Nora Drew Gregory and her late husband, Francis A.Gregory provided a total of 30 years of service to the library;WHEREAS, Nora Drew Gregory played an active role as member of the Board of Library Trustees including mounting a campaign to savethe library¶s bookmobile, chairing the library¶s place improvementprogram which enhanced shrubbery in front of the Martin Luther King,Jr. Memorial Library and chairing the committee responsible for ³TheLife and Times of Martin Luther King, Jr.´ mural that is displayed inthe Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Library.
