-(Ammoland.com)-TheLouisianaDepartmentofWildlife   andFisheries(LDWF)heldtheirinauguralSummerCampfromJuly18-  22attheWaddillOutdoorEducationCenterinBatonRougeforchildren   12to16yearsold.  Thecampwascompletelyfreeofchargeandparticipantswereableto   receivetheirofficialLDWFboaterandhuntereducationcertifications.  Thecampwassplitupbetweenclassroomworkandoutdooractivities   thatconsistedoffishingandcanoeinginthepondsattheWaddill  OutdoorEducationCenter,skeetshooting,airrifles,archeryandcasting   practice.  “Thecampwasagreatsuccessandwellreceivedbythekids   andtheirparents.Thedepartmentwilldefinitelysponsor   morecampsfornextsummersincewehadsuchagreat  demandandresponseforthisfirstone,”saidLDWF    SecretaryRobertBarham.  “Sincemostclassesforboatingandhuntingeducationare   done   inoneday,t  hiscampallowedforalotofextratime   duri  ngtheweekf   orthekidstogethandsonexperienceand   guid   anceonanumberofoutdooractivities.”  Thecamp wasopentothefirst20childrenthatregisteredwhodidnot  alreadyhaveaboaterorhuntereducationcertificate.Thefollowingkids   completedallfivedaysofthecampandreceivedtheirboatingand   huntingeducationcertifications:  TylerIrvin,12,ofGonzales;JordanLondon,12,ofBatonRouge;Taiylar   DeMoss,12,ofBatonRouge;DevonRegira,12,ofGeismar;Darren   Ficklin,12ofGeismar;ColtonStrain,12,ofClinton;ChanceTruett,13,of   BatonRouge;ScottSugasti,13,ofBarataria,DanielSant,13,ofBaton   Rouge,CadeHood,12,ofWalker;EmmaGordon,15,ofBatonRouge,  JeffreyRagusa,13,ofGonzales;Al  e   xander    Williams,1   2,ofSt.Gabriel  ;   MacPrudhomme,13,ofBatonRouge;DavidJohnson,14,ofBaton   Rouge;JameyJacocks,16,ofGeismar;JacobJacocks,15,ofGeismar;  HunterRube,15,ofBatonRouge;andCedricBrownJr.,13,of   Thibodaux.SariSant,15,ofBatonRouge,receivedherhunting   educationcertificate,buthadtoleavethecampearlyandmissedthe    boatingeducationportion.  Onthefinaldayofthecamp,LDWFheldaskillschallengeconsistingof   skeetshooting,archery,canoeingobstaclecourse,fishidentificationtest,  castingandfishingconteststodeterminewhichtwocamperswouldwin   lifetimehuntingandfishinglicenses.TheLouisianaWildlifeAgents    Association(LWAA)donatedlifetimehuntingandfishinglicensewentto   Ficklin.Sugastiwonthelifetimehuntingandfishinglicensedonatedby   theLouisianabranchoftheCoastalConservationAssociation(CCA).  TheLWAAandLouisianaWildlifeandFisheriesFoundationprovideda   dailylunchfreeofchargeforthefive-daysummercamp.Cabela’sin   Gonzalesalsodonatedarodandreelcombosetthateachchildreceived   touponcompletionofthecamp.CCAalsohadvolunteersonsiteand   gaveeachstudentaCCAmembership.  TheboatingeducationcourseismandatoryforanybodybornafterJan.  1,1984tooperateamotorboatinexcessof10horsepower.Thecourse   includesinformationonchoosingaboat,classification,hulls,motors,  legalrequirementsandequipmentrequirements.Thecoursealsocovers   manynavigationrulesandcharts,trailering,sailboats,canoeing,  personalwatercraftandmore.  Thehuntereducationcourseismandatoryforanyonebornonorafter   Sept.1,1969,whoplansonpurchasingahuntinglicense.Thehunter   educationcurriculumincludessectionsonethicsandresponsibility,   wildlifemanagement,firearmsandammunition,safetyinthefield,   wildlifeidentificationandwildlifeconservation.Themajorobjectivesof   thehuntereducationprogramsaretoreducethenumberofhunting   accidents,improvetheimageofhuntingthroughethicalandresponsible   conductandpromotetheshootingsports.  Tags:HunterEducation,LDWF,Louisiana,YouthHunting
