The Finger Lakes region makes superb wine, and theThird Annual Finger Lakes Riesling Festival toasts thebounty o its harvest. Set along beautiul Lakeshore Driveand Kershaw Park in Canandaigua, the estival presentedby the Villas at Canandaigua, is a “mile o amily un,”oering something or everyone.Showcasing more than 25 area wineries, restaurants,artists, and musicians, this weekend-long celebrationembraces the best the region has to oer, rom its wineand ood to its unique culture. Riesling tastings andseminars, cooking demonstrations, beer tastings, artisancheese samplings and a harvest-resh armers marketwill please your palate. Live entertainment, arts andcrats, and a classic car show will compliment this year’slively estival activities. “The Finger Lakes Riesling Festivaltruly oers the best o what the Finger Lakes Regionprovides,” says event co-ounder Howie Jacobson. “It’sreally something to see.”A portion o the estival’s proceeds benet theCanandaigua Family YMCA, to help individuals attendand participate in programs and activities oered there.Last year’s event raised more than $31,000. Jacobson isthrilled at the support, commitment, and good will. “Thisevent started rom a conversation about how to bring ourcommunity together and have un,” he says. Three yearsago, riends Lauren Dixon, CEO o Dixon Schwabl, JohnIngle Jr., CEO o Heron Hill Winery and property ownerDavid Genecco, were inspired to bring recognition andrespect to the region, and created a charitable entity toassist the community. “Now we’re hosting an event to acrowd o more than 40,000, and we’ve raised more than$66,000 to support the Canandaigua YMCA,” Jacobsonsays. “It’s a true testament to the Canandaigua communityand great partnerships. We wouldn’t be where we aretoday without the sponsorship support and communityinvolvement.”The estival continues to grow, and provides anopportunity or the Finger Lakes region to enhance itsreputation or world-class culture. Each vendor invitesestivalgoers to taste their Rieslings plus one additionalvariety. The New York State Crat Beer Tent presented byWegmans is taking place both Saturday and Sunday thisyear, and cheese and ood pairings are abundant. “Thisyear’s estival is driven by people ull o energy, passion,and ideas,” says John Ingle Jr., CEO o Heron Hill Winery.
