EIA Study of Navi Mumbai International Airport
CESE, IIT Mumbai CIDCOexpected to reach by 2012-13. Keeping in view the space andairfield constraints at Mumbai, there is a need to develop the secondairport for Mumbai.
1.3 POLICY, LEGAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE FRAME WORK:
The Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) project is designatedto be developed under the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA)Notification, 2006 published on 14
September, 2006 and amendedunder Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 as well as Coastal ZoneRegulation, 1991 amended as on 15
May, 2009. The project fallsin “Category A” (Activity 7a). as per the above EIA Notification.The Centre of Environment Science and Engineering, Indian Instituteof Technology, Mumbai (CESE) has been engaged by CIDCO tocarry out the comprehensive Environment Impact Assessment studyin accordance with the guidelines of Ministry of Environment &Forest and Maharashtra State Pollution Control Board (MPCB).
1.4 PROJECT BRIEF:
The proposed site falls in Panvel Taluka of Raigad Dist. of Maharashtra State located west of Panvel City in the Geographicalcentre of Navi Mumbai and MMR with a longitude of 73°.04’.18” andlatitude of 18°.59’.33”. The following Table gives the Environmentalsetting along with the topographical features of study area within the10 kms. stretch from the Airport Reference Point (ARP) is shown inFig.1.1.
