Scheme Answer
1(a)
Inference:
The time taken for Ramli and Chiam to swing from one end to the other is the same.(b)
Hypothesis:
The period of a pendulum is independent of the mass of pendulum.(c) (i)
Aim:
To investigate the variation in the period of a simple pendulum with the mass of thependulum bob.(ii
) Manipulated variable:
mass of pendulum bob
Responding variable:
period of pendulum
Constant variable:
length of pendulum(iii)
Apparatus:
string, two pieces of wood, five pendulum bobs of known different masses, ruler, stop watch, retort stand and clamp
Materials:
nil(iv) The apparatus is arranged as shown in diagram(vi)
Procedure:
1. Using one pendulum bob, the simplest pendulum is set up as shown2. The length of the pendulum,
l
, is fixed at 50.0 cm3. The pendulum is displaced a little to one side and released4. The time, t
10
for 10 complete oscillations of the pendulum is determined using a stop watch.5. Step 4 is repeated.6. From 4 and 5, the average value for the time for 10 complete oscillations is calculated.7. The period, T is determined by dividing the average value of t
10
by 10,
8. Steps 1 to 7 are repeated for each of the other four pendulum bobs.----------[students sketch simple pendulum here]------------(vi)

Analysis of data
It is seen that the period is the same for all the pendulums regardless of the mass of the bob if thelength is the same
