We are always keen to hear about new opportunities to work with partners to enhance what we do, and would be interested to hear more about your thoughts on a Disability Champion for the College. I hope this information answers the questions you had, but please get in touch if you wish further information.

Dear Ms Dugdale Thank you for you"r letter of 9 June enquiring about our access and provisions for students with disabilities. Firstly, to answer your question on the percentage that students with disabilities make up, as a percentage of the total student population, I enclose some statistics from the last 2 cycles which I hope provides the kind of information you are seeking. Within the category of disability enrolments we find through analysis that most of our students will have learning difficulties, e.g. dyslexia, and that the remainder have learning disabilities. The way we and other colleges are funded by the Scottish Funding Council provides discrete funding for all categories of disability. This allows us to offer both discrete courses or to provide support for disability on mainstream programmes. The college has been located in a purpose built campus since 2006 and as such was certificated as DDA compliant. Regarding physical access, we continue to equality impact assess as part of estates management and facility enhancement processes. We are not aware of any physical adaptation requests that have been prohibitive cost-wise or alternative arrangements that have been made. We work in partnership with the local authority and NHS to plan, for example, for personal care equipment needs for students on our programmes. The reference we use for partnership working is available from the Scottish Government website http://www .scotland. gov. uk/Publications/Recent We have a structure within the College that builds champions for all strands of equality: we have a Diversity and Equality Steering group to review and plan how the College responds to legislation and ethos and values, equality training for staff and students and within our Learner Services Team, a strong equality ethos and staff trained in and supporting disability access in our programmes. We also have an Edinburgh Colleges Equality panel. In partnership with Jewel and Esk and Stevenson colleges we meet with external organisations as part of our involvement activity; there is a panel meeting this week with a facilitator to discuss the implications of the new Equality Act for colleges with our partners, including members of Disability organisations. We have always engaged with relevant
