 International Relief and Development (IRD), a majorimplementer of U.S. foreign assistance and a leader in the internationalstabilization and development community, announced today thatU.S.
Ambassador John Dimitri Negroponte has joined the organization’s
AdvisoryCouncil.
"We are honored by Ambassador Negroponte’s
willingness to serve with the
other distinguished members of our Advisory Council,” said Dr. Arthur Keys,President and Chief Executive Officer of IRD. “John brings years of invaluable
experience and insights that will help IRD as we continue to expand our
development and stabilization work around the globe.”
Negroponte has been Ambassador to Honduras, Mexico, the Philippines, theUnited Nations, and Iraq. In Washington, he served twice on the NationalSecurity Council staff, first as Director for Vietnam in the Nixon Administrationand then as Deputy National Security Advisor under President Reagan. He alsoheld a cabinet level position as the first Director of National Intelligence underPresident George W. Bush. His most recent position in government was asDeputy Secretary of S
tate, where he served as the State Department’s
Chief Operating Officer.Ambassador Negroponte has received numerous awards in recognition of hismore than four de
cades of public service, including the State Department’s
highest award, the Distinguished Service Medal, on two separate occasions. Hewas also awarded the National Security Medal by President Bush for hisoutstanding contributions to U.S. national security.In the private sector, Ambassador Negroponte has served in the leadership of theMcGraw-Hill Companies, the French-American Foundation, the Council of theAmericas/Americas Society, and the Asia Society. He currently works as ViceChairman of McLarty Associates, an international strategic advisory firm inWashington, D.C. He also serves his alma mater, Yale University, as adistinguished senior research fellow and a lecturer in international affairs.-- more --
