Leather is defined as a durable and flexible created via the tanning of putrescible animal rawhide and skin, primarily cattle hide.

It can be produced through different manufacturing processes, ranging from cottage industry to heavy industry.

Council functions

under the Misinistry of Commerce, Govt. of India Council works for export promotion and overall development of the Indian leather industry.

The

Interim Budget 2009-10 offers very little for the leather or exporting sectors. Footwear alone holds a major share of 41.16% in Indias total leather products export trade.
