PART I - mVIG:,TION
1. Only 4 planes deviated fran planned routes on all 5 rnbsiona.
2. The only difficulty in navigation encountered wae on Mining
}fission No.7 wben a beavy haze nortb of 1.0 JimS. interfered with
celestial observations.
3. MiniM:
a. Mines on all missions were generally laid as briefed
and results were considered excellent to good.
b. Visibility was good on all missions, with weather being
clear on Mining M ~ s i o n s No.4, 5 and 6. On Mining Mission No.3
weather was clear to 2/10 cloud coverage, and on Mining Mission No.1
there 1I'8.S a slight haze over the target area.
c. Initial and aiming points were satisfactory for all
missions
d. The majority of aircraft laid their minea by the rader
method. Radar equipnent operated satisfactorily.
e. Malfunctions:
(1) No malfunctions were reported on Mining Missions
No.3 end 7.
(2) On Mining Mission No. 4 radar equipnent was
inoperative in 1 eircraft I and on Mining Mission No. 5 there was 1
rack malfunction and 1 tluxgate canpass did not work properly.
(3) On Mining Mission No. 6 aircraft reported tbe
following maltunetions:
(a) Ale 4825: had engine fialure and jettisoned
mines.
(li) Ale 4.884: had trouble with #3 engine and
jettisoned mines.
(e) Ale 674: bad mechmiul tailure and jetti8one4
mines.
(d) Ale 3552: bad 1 mine bang up 4ue to rae.k

positions established by radar scope photogrsphyr.ere accurate to

were operative aver the target. A total of 31 radar wind runs
am 216 radar fixes vere taken. Average 1IBximum rango was 58
.miles. IP and AP ..ere easily identified. Loran Fucs numbered.
