This is the first complete revision I have attempted of my original Wild Bunchplaybook from June, 2000. I have dropped some of the material that was clearlyrelevant to no one but me, and focused more on the
of the WildBunch, and less on the
of its creation. To that end, new sections outline: the theory behind the offense; the mechanicsof its installation, including a detailed schedule and how to pick the plays thatbest suit your personnel; situational practice for and use of the offense;recommendations for attacking various popular defensive fronts, specifically theSplit-4, the 3-3 Stack, the 3-4/5-2, the Miami/Slide 4-3, and the 5-3; andthoughts on defeating the best-known defensive coverage schemes, includingCovers 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 (Cover 2/Man Under) as well as zone blitzes. In the nearly four years since I posted the original Wild Bunch on the Internet, Ihave received questions and comments indicating that much importantinformation was missing from that work, especially for coaches who were lookingto install a new offensive concept. I hope the present edition will fill the gapingholes in the original version. My special thanks to those coaches who agreed to evaluate earlier versions of this book in manuscript. You know who you are, you masochists. Finally, I want to acknowledge the influence on the Wild Bunch, and on myoffensive thinking in general, of Coaches Harold "Tubby" Raymond and TedKempski. Their seminal The Delaware Wing-T: An Order of Football inspired alot more than the lame pun in this book's title.
