Empire Plan Health Insurance Premiums Costs Impact of Increases in Employee's Share of Health Insurance Premiums in Tentative CSEA

and PEF 2011-2016 Contracts Note about calculations in the tables below: The Empire Plan increases their premiums each year. The annual increases take effect in January each year. The Empire Plan premium increase for 2011 was about 17.7% and was effective January 2011. The 2012 Empire Plan annual increase effective January 2012 is projected to be between 13.7% and 18%. Annual Empire Plan premium increases of 13.7% have been included in the calculations for 2012 - 2016. The bi-weekly CSEA employee premium costs has be used for the calculations.

State Grade 10 or higher:


Employee's share of Empire Plan premiums for state employees in all grades is currently: 10% for individual coverage and 25% for family Under the tentative 2011-2016 contract agreements the employee's share for State grade 10 or higher will be: Employee share of Empire Plan Premiums for individual coverage increases to 16% effective October 1, 2011 This equates to a dollar amount increase of 60%. Employee share of Empire Plan Premiums for family coverage increases to 31% effective October 1, 2011 This equates to a dollar amount increase of 24%.

State Grade 9 or lower:


Employee's share of Empire Plan premiums for state employees in all grades is currently: 10% for individual coverage and 25% for family Under the tentative 2011-2016 contract agreements the employee's share for State grade 9 or lower will be: Employee share of Empire Plan Premiums for individual coverage increases to 12% effective October 1, 2011 This equates to a dollar amount increase of 20%. Employee share of Empire Plan Premiums for family coverage increases to 27% effective October 1, 2011 This equates to a dollar amount increase of 8%.
