Letter from the editor
Several years ago, in an at-tempt to get fit, I took up runningfor the first time. It became soserious an addiction of mine thatI would sometimes wake up inthe middle of the night to check the clock to see how much longer it would be until my alarm finallywent off at 5:30 a.m.I loved running first thing inthe morning, long before most people were even moving abouttheir cabins. Not only was it agreat way to get in shape, but itwas an amazing stress reliever aswell. Running became somethingI did daily, until I got sidelined  by the flu. After I felt better, Ifound that getting back into thegroove wasn’t as easy as it used to be. Thus, my love affair withrunning ended, but even today, whenever I see arunner, I wistfullywatch them for aminute and fond-ly remember TheTime I Was ARunner. As you mightgather from our cover image, thisweek’s cover story is aboutrunning — inthree upcomingraces, actually. But much morethan being justanother local run, the Valley’sFastest Man competition aims tohelp raise awareness for theunder-the-radar plight of orphansand foster children, as well asother adoption initiatives. Find out more on pages16-17.Also in this week’s issue, youcan read about “The Bark of theUnderdogs,” a play written byand starring a Forty Fort native(p. 52), get some fashion TipsFrom A Barbie Chick (p. 41) and much more, but you’ll have tofind those pages yourself. Thanks for reading!
