Projects can create: A product or service that is unique A result, such as outcomes or documents. For example, a research project develops knowledge that can be used to determine whether or not a trend is present or a new process will benefit society. Uniqueness is an important characteristic of project deliverables. For example, many thousands of office buildings have been developed, but each individual facility is unique different owner, different design, different location, different contractors, and so on. Why Project Fail

The following are reasons projects fail: Initial cost and schedule estimates are not revised when more information becomes available as the project progresses. Plans are not used correctly or used to guide the project forward. Project managers are not trained to acquire the necessary skill base; subsequently, the same mistakes are made repeatedly. The theory of project management is not put into practice. This point can be seen in the attitude of many managers who view theory as a waste of time yet time is found to repair errors later. Isn't that a sure sign of the wrong approach? The project scope changes. The incorrect project methodology is used. Requirements have major changes. Communications are poor. Testing and/or inspections are poorly done.

Advantages of Project Management

Project management brings together many of the things that are needed to make endeavours like projects successful. But what do we mean by a successful project? A successful project is one that meets or exceeds the expectations of the stakeholders in the project. 1. Unity of Direction 2. Reliable Source of Information 3. Tested tools and techniques 4. The Triple Constraint (Scope, Budget and Time)
