Methodology
The survey findings presented in this release are based on the results of interviews conducted September 15 – 21, 2008. The interviews were conductedat the Center for Opinion Research at Franklin and Marshall College under thedirection of the poll’s director, Dr. G. Terry Madonna, Head MethodologistBerwood Yost, Project Manager Jennifer Harding, and Project Manager BradNankerville. The data included in this release represent the responses of 1,320adult residents of the United States who are currently registered to vote.Telephone numbers for the survey were generated using random digit dialing, andrespondents were randomly selected from within each household. Survey resultswere weighted using an iterative weighting algorithm. The sample error for registered adults is +/- 2.7 percent. In addition tosampling error, this poll is also subject to other sources of non-sampling error.Generally speaking, two sources of error concern researchers most. Non-responsebias is created when selected participants either choose not to participate in thesurvey or are unavailable for interviewing. Response errors are the product of thequestion and answer process. Surveys that rely on self-reported behaviors andattitudes are susceptible to biases related to the way respondents process andrespond to survey questions.
