AswiththeSecondEpistletotheCorinthia.ns,alargepartofthisletteristakenupwithproofsoftheapostle'sDivineauthority.Themajorportion,however,isdevotedtorefutingtheteachingofsuchaswouldleadbacktheGalatianstobondage,formanyofthemdesiredtobeundertheLaw.AndPauldeclaredtothemthatthiswasaremovinguntoadifferentgospelaltogether,although,therebeinginrealitynoothergospel,itwasapervertingofthegospelofChrist.

ThelikenesstoRomansisnoticeable,andalthoughthisEpistlewaswrittenbeforethattotheRomans,PaulhadtaughttheGalatia.nsthe
same
truth
as
herecordsillthelaterEpistle.
Galatians
hasbeenhappilylikenedtoasketchforthefinishedpicture,
Romans.
InbothismaintainedthefundamentaltruththatthereisnodifferencebetweenJewandGentilebeforeGod.TherewouldbemanyJewsamongthechurchesofGalatia,forPauleverwenttotheJewfirst;yetthemajoritywouldbeGentiles,apparentlytooreadytoyieldtothepersuasionsofjudaizerswhotaughtthenecessityofcircumcision.Ofprofoundinteresttoallbelieversistherecordoftheapostle'sreceptionofthegospelwhichwaspreachedbyhim.Forhereceiveditnotfromman,norwashetaughtit,butitcametohimthroughrevelationofJesusChrist.3.ThereisdifferenceofopinionastowherothechurchesofGalatiaweresituated.TheprovincewasacentraloneinAsiaMinor,occupiedinthenorthernpartsbyamixedraceinwhichtheKelticpredominated;andsomothinkthattherewerenochurchesat
