ROPP 2011-2011 August 2011 Core Focus Challenge The core focus for August is RELIGION.

The primary objective is for you to understand your Christian AME religion and denomination better, and to know how it differs from other beliefs and practices. You will be given a book about the history of the Black church. Your chapter assignment is : _____________________________________ Choose two of the following three project components: Option I. Write a report, at least 3 pages long (12pt font), that summarizes your chapter assignment. Talk to at least one family member about what you read and include their response in your report. Be sure to include your response to what youve learned. Option II. Create a PowerPoint presentation that compares/ contrasts the 3 religious practices (AME Christianity, Islam, Catholicism) discussed on Core Focus day PLUS one additional religion. Use images, text, animation and/or sound to enhance your presentation. Option III. Create an artistic expression based on: 1) something you learned in your assigned reading and 2) the principles found in the Apostles Creed. You may create a poem, drawing, song, collage, sculpture, etc

Book Report Quick Reference Guide Write a title. The title could include the name of the book. Write an introductory paragraph. You may want to start with a question to get your reader interested. Be sure to include the title and author of the book and let the reader know what type of story/ book it is. Write a paragraph summarizing the main points. Be sure to give the names of any characters and tell a little about them. You could explain the problem they face in the book and what they are doing to overcome it. Be careful not to give away the ending! Write a paragraph that gives the reader your opinion of the book. Here you might want to write about your favorite part or what you learned. In your conclusion, let the reader know if you recommend this book. Tell the reader why he or she should or should not read this book.
