Not having a formal education nor ever taking a creative writing course, I have published my shortstories and poems and two books and working on a third.
Q: What, or who, inspired you to become a writer?
A:
At age 28 I read ‘For Whom the Bell Tolls by Hemingway’. I was struck with the bug to write. Hehas been my influence ever since. But never do I try to imitate him.
Q: When did you begin writing with the intention of being published?A:
Right from the get go. My first rejection was from the ‘Saturday Evening Post’.
Q: Did your environment or upbringing play a major role in your writing and why?A
:
Yes it did. I write from my own life experience and the people and places I have known. I work hardat creating the sensuous brilliance of the world’s offerings and to work in the excitement of complexrelationships and to work in the beauty of nature.
Q: Do you come up with your title(s) before or after you write the manuscript(s)?A:
Always before. I also write the ending first and then write towards it.
Q: Why do you write in the genre(s) that you’ve chosen?A:
I write fiction because I can go inside a man’s mind or a woman’s heart or both their souls. Doneright it’s a good work of literature.
Q: What has been your most rewarding experience while in the writing process?A:
Because I sell a lot of books in my own turf and publish many of my poems locally, I receive a lot of feed back face to face. I am told “I loved it. I couldn’t put it down. Your poem changed my life.” This isa confidence builder like no other.
