TYPES OF RAM S:Double data rate synchronous dynamic random-access memory (DDR RAM):-

DDR RAM, which stands for Double Data which is a type of SDRAM with 184 pins and appeared first on the market around 2001 but didn t catch on until about 2001 when the mainstream motherboards started supporting it. The difference between SDRAM and DDR RAM is that instead of doubling the clock rate it transfers data twice per clock cycle which effectively doubles the data rate. DDRRAM has become mainstream in the graphics card market and has become the memory standard. Compatible with P4S533X motherboard. It cannot be used where slots of DDR2 or DDR3 are supported.

Double data rate synchronous dynamic random-access memory (DDR2 SDRAM):-

DDR2 SDRAM is a double data rate synchronous dynamic random-access memory interface. It is 240 pins chip. It supersedes the original DDR SDRAM specification and has itself been superseded by DDR3 SDRAM. DDR2 is neither forward nor backward compatible with either DDR or DDR3. In addition to double pumping the data bus as in DDR SDRAM transferring data on the rising and falling edges of the bus clock signal, DDR2 allows higher bus speed and requires lower power by running the internal clock at half the speed of the data bus. The two factors combine to require a total of four data transfers per internal clock cycle. Thus with a memory clock frequency of 100 MHz, DDR2 SDRAM gives a maximum transfer rate of 3200 MB/s. Double data rate type three synchronous dynamic random access memory (DDR3 SDRAM):

DDR3 SDRAM, an abbreviation for double data rate type three synchronous dynamic random access memory, is a modern kind of dynamic random access memory (DRAM) with a high bandwidth interface. The primary benefit of DDR3 SDRAM over its immediate predecessor, DDR2 SDRAM, is its ability to transfer data at twice the rate, enabling higher bandwidth or peak data rates. With two transfers per cycle of a quadrupled clock, a 64-bit wide DDR3 module may achieve a transfer rate of up to 64 times the memory clock speed in megabytes per second (MB/s). Thus with a memory clock frequency of 100 MHz, DDR3 SDRAM gives a maximum transfer rate of 6400 MB/s. In addition, the DDR3 standard permits chip capacities of up to 8 gigabits.

CONCLUSION:It has been seen that different types of motherboard have different components which make them different like the different features like processor support, power supply, RAM type supported, FSB support and various other features. As well as in RAM types the motherboard which supports a particular type of RAM will may not be able to support other kind of RAM. Hence while assembling the specifications and the need should be taken into consideration while assembling or purchasing the PC, considering future upgrades and chang in technology.
