Love: Poverty’s Antidote
I’M PIERRE FERRARI, the new CEO o Heier Inter-national. I come to you with absolute joy that I have thisopportunity to serve this organization, its generous andloving donors and the communities around the world that Heier supports.Though we’re just getting to know each other, in my rst ocial letter to you in

, I’d like to talk to you about our shared love: ending hunger and poverty. What doesending poverty and hunger have to do with love, and withHeier International, you ask? Everything.I’ve been a Heier donor or many years and have beenstudying Heier very closely the past ew months. Providingan animal through the Heier system is un and easily un-derstood. No doubt you, too, just coming out o the holiday git season, have seen the happiness that comes when youtell your wie, husband, best riend, co-worker, nephew oraunt that, in their honor, a goat, yak, camel or water bualois now out there in the world helping people.I think giving through Heier is an opportunity or peopleto do what most humans want to do all the time, which isto extend love to other people. It works in two directions.One, it’s an opportunity to give to those in need who canuse the git and leverage it dramatically or a better lie. And two, closer to home, it honors the recipients o thealternative gits and makes them part o something biggerthan themselves. So or me, Heier is an organization that provides a lot o people an opportunity to be very loving.

Having seen destitution and poverty, not just in Arica, where I was born, but also in South America and Asia, theglobal issues o deep poverty and extreme hunger are closeto my heart. I also have a passionate urgency that I wishto convey to others in the Heier amily. Each day, 22,000children in the world die o causes related to poverty andmalnutrition. While we shouldn’t be reckless, we do needto move aster. We are an organization that deals with this problem pro-essionally and successully. The potential or us to do that with greater scale and greater speed is something that makes me smile all the time.
