Without getting into a long philosophical discussion about why I feel much of this stance is dangerous to our national security, let me just comment about Obama's stated desire to "place 'people first' so our military can recruit and retain the forces it needs & our servicemembers & their families are treated with the respect & appreciation they deserve." How does Obama's proposed plan to let our veterans pay for their own health care accomplish this stated goal? This is a disgrace & a slap in the face to the men & women who protected our country, many of whom were wounded in the line of duty. Is this any way to repay them and encourage other citizens to enlist?
Obama mentions the term "Cold War" 6 times in this document, each time discussing how the the military needs to be reformed from "Cold War" organization. Unfortunately, this is what was done during the Reagan, Bush, Clinton, and G.W. Bush years. The invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq had demonstrated the successful aspects (i.e. stealth technology and missiles in achieving air superiority) and weaknesses (i.e. anti-mortar & anti-missile technology, while advancing, is still weak, leaving populated areas at risk from insurgents and terrorists; lack of technology protecting from powerful IED's; an over dependence on human transportation systems for supply lines.) Obama seems to be obsessed with the Cold War in this document, discussing nuclear weapons with Russia (former "Cold War" foe leader of the Soviet Union) and never once mentioning the building nuclear ballistic missile quantities in China - who had been arming the terrorists with weapons, IED's, and missiles throughout the Middle East and Central Asia! I hope Obama checks in his "Cold War" mindset at the front door of The White House and starts being concerned about a 21st century world where terrorism and budding & building nuclear powers who arm terrorists are the primary concerns.
