I appeared before the Whau Local Board at their regu-lar meeting in New Lynn on Tuesday 9 August, toraise a number of issues:1.The missing community noticeboard/heritage sign atthe Town Centre (by Dale the Spider)2.The renaming of New Windsor Reserve to ArthurCurrey Reserve (still not done, although approvedSeptember last year)3. The renaming of Avondale South Domain to GittosDomain, Blockhouse Bay (still not not, although ap-proved in 2009. AWHS wrote in support of this back in 2004)Also, as there was a representative from a peace groupwho spoke to the Board before I did, and brought upthe Peace Garden at the corner of Ash Street and GreatNorth Road (installed in 1995), I advised the Boardthat, should they wish to specially celebrate the gar-den, they should also consider contacting the family of the late Kurt Brehmer, who as member of the Avon-dale Community Board was the instigator and mainadvocate for the garden’s establishment. Kurt, whowith his wife Nola was a foundation member andstaunch supporter of our Society, is not forgotten.October: Sandra ConeyDecember: Marc Bonny on his

book The Avondale Library had a wonderful response, in-cluding from Suburbs Club — so they will have agreat display at the library during the World Cupperiod. Many thanks to all those who got in touch tohelp our library out. With 43 intending attendees, representing around 20organisations, this even on 28 August at St Ninians hasturned out, at this point, to be more successful than Ihad thought. I’m delighted to see so many of ourfriends from other societies around the region and be-yond. There’s virtually no room left at the inn, now.Start time is 9 am, with things underway by 9.30.
