Course Description
This class is designed to introduce students to basic conceptsand techniques in the theory, design, implementation andadministration of relational databases. Topics to be coveredinclude, the database design process, the entity-relationship(ER) model, normalization, queries in SQL, distributed andclient-server databases, and database administration
 
Learning Outcomes
1. Students will be able to explain the process of determining an
organization’s data needs and how to design database management
systems to meet these needs.2. Students will be able to create, read and modify entity relationshipdiagrams from an organ
ization’s business rules.
 3. Students will be able to create, read and modify relational schemasand create working databases in MS Access.4. Students will be able to apply Structured Query Language to create,access, and manage databases.

Make-up Exams
No make-up tests will be offered except on medical grounds. Youwill be required to provide necessary documentation.
 Late Work
All assignments are to be submitted via WebCT. The deadline forsubmitting an assignment is 11:00 pm on the due date. Latesubmissions can be submitted via eLearning upto 24 hours after thedeadline. Assignments submitted within 24 hours after the duedate/time will be subject to a 25% penalty. No late submissions willbe accepted 24 hours after the deadline.
 Class Attendance
No points are awarded for attendance. However, students areexpected to attend all classes and to read the assigned material. Itis also the students' responsibility to keep abreast of anyannouncements made in class. I will post information aboutsignificant changes, if any, to the syllabus. This is only to be usedas a supplement, and not as a substitute, to announcements madein class. I will monitor attendance in class and will provide noadditional help to students who regularly skip lectures.
