1.Put a drop of methylene blue on aslide. Caution: methylene blue willstain clothes and skin.2. Gently scrape the inside of yourcheek with the ﬂat side of a toothpick.Scrape lightly.3. Stir the end of the toothpick into thestain and throw the toothpick away.4. Place a coverslip onto the slide.5. Use the LOW POWER objective tofocus. Cells should be visible, but theywill be small and look like nearly clearpurplish blobs.
IF YOU ARE LOOKING ATSOMETHING THAT IS A VERYDARK PURPLE AND LOOKSLARGE, IT IS PROBABLY NOTA CELL!
6. Once you think you have located acell, switch to medium power andrefocus. (Remember, do NOT use thecoarse adjustment knob at this point)7. Once you have located the cell atmedium power, switch to high powerand observe.---
