    She was born on February 2, 1977 in Barranquilla Colombia. Her full name is Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, the meaning of her name is " thankful". She is the only child of Nidia Ripoll and William Mebarak
    She is a singer, songwriter, dancer and philanthropist. She is very smart because she speaks many languages like spanish, english, portuguese as well as some Italian, French, German and Arabic. Shakira wrote her first song called "Tusgafasoscuras" (Your dark glasses) when she was only eight years old. This song was inspired by her father who for years wore dark glasses, to hide his grief.

    When she was a child, she wanted to enter her school choir but the teacher said that she sang like a sheep.Mebarak.
