As a well known junk (treasure) collector, I am trying to become alittle more disciplined in managing my inventory. About three yearsago, I bought a backhoe to do some major landscaping in preparationor building our new home and some additional work once we weremoved in. Aer two years o useulness, I sold (recycled) the backhoeand bought my newest old tractor. It, o course, has been extremely useul and my main man toy, but a number o old implements havegone unused or years and so I recently recycled those to new owners. So my new policy or managing inventory is ... prove that you areuseul within a one to two year period or you are gone!!!“For Sale or rade … One short little old lady!!! Other than writingmalicious stories (see current Musings, I have not ound other useulpurposes in over two years!!”Another very good reason or getting rid o surplus equipment (andpeople) is to make room or new to me equipment. By later today, Iam hoping to return to the backhoe business. Now this is a relatively small attachment or the back o my tractor and not the big monsterthat I had beore.Aer months o walking our woods roads, I have been perturbed by the condition o signicant sections o the roads. Tere is one sectiono about 100 metres that is just a bog and largely impassable with thetractor. But, I believe that i I ditch it properly or better drainage thatit can be used again. Ten, just aer this area is another 100 metresthat is washed out so badly that 50% o the road is missing and thereare sections eroded down at least our eet. Other than Saint Johnresidents, no one would try to drive on this!!Trow in about six other small areas o road that are troublesomeand about a hundred places that could use some improvementsand you can see that a small backhoe is just exactly what is needed.Fortunately, the missus is like me, we hate to see things deteriorateand become useless. It certainly doesn’t make economic sense, butsomehow, having those roads restored to working condition isimportant to my sense o how things should be.When we no longer have the time, energy or money to take care o what we own or we just no longer want it or need it, then it is the timeto seriously think about giving up our ownership to someone thatwill value and take care o it. How oen do we see individuals holdonto things without providing any care right up to the point wherethey are totally useless and beyond recovery. Please recycle!!
