seeing Asia transformed

New season, same faithful God

Though our locations may change, our countries may change, and even the language around us may change, God stays the same, faithful, good God that He is all over the world. We had many questions about how everything would work with our move down south here to Taichung, Taiwan. Would we be able to find a new place to live? How could we afford all the costs of moving and new furniture? Would we find new opportunities to work with the local church? In our current world of shifting economies, stock markets ups and downs, and whole nations debts threatening to collapse their very abilities to exist, it would seem the worst time to be facing all these questions and walking into a new season. However, we have seen God move and provide over our years in missions, regardless of the circumstances of the world, or us. So far, our time in Taichung has seen God do one miracle after another. Ever since we moved to Taiwan, we have been trying to raise the money to buy a van here. We have been piling the kids on two scooters, which always amuses the locals to see us big Americans hanging off the seats. This summer, you can imagine our shock, when a couple approached us and said that they wanted to give us the full

Gods blessing list

New apartment, five desks, eight dressers, 2 refrigerators, full size dryer, clothes washing machine, table and chairs, bookshelves, dish cabinet, 3 large wardrobes, 5 AC units, money for a used van, money for a bigger scooter, people to help unpack, people to help translate, wonderful new landlords, opportunities to lead Bible studies and devotionals, and much more!

God told us, Give them the full amount.

amount to buy a new van! God also provided a new place for us to live. We had been searching without any success a few months ago, and were actually leaving Taichung to return to Danshui. At the last moment, someone in the school office told us of a family that was moving out of their apartment. Within one week, we had signed the lease on a place that was the perfect size and location we had been praying for (and price too!). There has been so many ways God has blessed us, this newsletter would go on for pages and pages if I tried to tell about everything. Instead, look at the list over to the left for the highlights. We wanted to encourage everyone and thank everyone for your prayers and generosity. We know that many of you are struggling with the economy right now, but God is able to do all things! He is good and faithful, and gives us so much more than we deserve.

Ministry Opportunities
Not only has Katie been given an open door for ministry (see below), but Sean has also seen God provide many different ways to serve in Taichung and continuing to serve in Asia. Before we even moved here, Sean was asked to lead a Bible study every week that targets one of the local universities. Feng Chia University has over 20,000 students, and many come to the Bible study to learn English, and leave with much more (a personal relationship with Jesus!). Sean will also be leading some devotionals for the missionary school staff, as well as chapel times for the children. The main thing that will keep Sean busy is studying Chinese. He has begun full time classes at a local school established to train missionaries for the Chinese world. The language will be a key to opening many more doors for the future.

Training the new generation of missionaries and church leaders in Taiwan

Education is a key to seeing Taiwan transformed by the Word of God. That is why it is so exciting for us to be involved with Morrison Academy. Katies first grade glass is made up of missionary children, children of local Taiwanese church leaders, and children of Taiwanese and foreign business people. Each group provides Katie with an amazing goal for the year. With the missionary families, we know how we have been blessed by the Christian teachers who have sacrificed to be over here training our children. Now, Katie can return the blessing. With the church leaders children, she can continue the process of training the next leaders of the Taiwanese church and ministries. Finally, there is a rich, evangelistic opportunity with the business children. Some of them will only hear and learn about Jesus at school. We have heard so many testimonies of children getting saved in elementary school there, and going on to do amazing things for Jesus in Taiwan and all over Asia. Katie has done home schooling and cooperative schools, but this is her first time back teaching full time since we got married (by the way, we just celebrated 17 years together in marriage!). It has been a big adjustment for her so far, and the rest of the family is so proud of her. Especially Kai, as he gets the blessing of having his mom as the teacher. Hello Mrs. Ellis!
