Notes to a Role playing game using the GURPS system. The idea was time travel, I build from other GMs earlier games and continued their story, thus the initial science fiction scene with characters involving the KGB. I think it had a "Mad Men" 1960's atmosphere. Sadly I destroyed that by turning it into a technological/ occult "Narnia" story to Warring period China, the Chu kingdom which was conquered by the Qin. My work is mostly an embarassing collection of cliche with some historical facts and cultural amalgams. In my defense I didn't have a lot to work with. Feel free to be vicious, I like criticism. Feel free to use it as you see fit, such as it is. I apologize to history.....

The science fiction scene.Working from Garths detailed notes I have been able to construct the following, myapologies to Garth for the alteration of his original ideas.Assumptions:It is the far future. This is a culture where there are no humans left. There may be ³humans"left somewhere but they are unknown to this culture. Humans are a treasured memoryremembered as heros responsible for the birth of this culture. The name, translated from their machine language is called ³The Culture.´ and yes, I have read Ian Banks. The culture occupies a fleet of 5 world ships and a myriad of smaller vessels, made bymining and developing asteroids, over time the asteroids resemble ships, slowly at sublightspeeds the ships are travelling to a new solar system. The are linked by a matter net thatallows the ships to have a positive mass/ energy accumulation as the travel through deepspace. The net absorbs hydrogen, ionized particles and radiation which is used to creatematter and supply energy for the 5 ships. The sentient units of the ³Culture´ have ritualistic practices that involve orienting towards the center of the matter net.Over time the ships have developed distinct value orientations. The three major world shipsnames, translated are Harmony, Union & Legion. The world ships are in a pentagonalformation with a ³matter net´ between them. It collects hydrogen and other debris that is usedfor building and energy creation. There has to be some kind of input to any near closedsystem.Harmony is the politically dominant world ship and increasingly has a policing function inthe Culture. It outright controls three of the world ships, and thus has the biggest access of resources, it controls the world ships Gaia and Acuitas ( Insight in latin).Gaia is predictably about the preservation of life, understood as biological systems. Becauseof the shear length of time for their evolution, the variation of life and its delicate nature being closely adapted to ecological niches life is considered of value. Many units will use lifeforms as decoration and Gaia will export ³life´ as an exotic commodity. Picture the scene, if you will of an ominous black small car sized hovering tank with a plasma turret that has a black cat purched on top of one of its heat exhausts sleeping, and has gone to the trouble of having a silver icon of a cat above its barcoded intent, translated as Security unit 71641.The culture has developed an appreciation of the complexity and diversity of ³life´ andseeks to understand its solutions to its problems. Many subsystems and behaviours of itsautonomous units are models or applications of the solutions found in animal species. Thusrepair drones will swarm like ants, fighter drones will flock like birds and tanks patrols roamlike a pack of wolves/ lions/ dogs whatever. The world ship Acuitas ³Insight´ has the dominant research complexes and data archives andcontrols access to information. It produces and disperses amongst the fleet data nodes that aresentient and possess the sum total knowledge of the Culture. Its predominant orientation is physical sciences and the development and improvement of the components of the culture. It has produced some autonomous human like models that have a research function and are inthemselves experiments in diversity, their access to history information is limited and theytend to work on the Gaia world ship or work with Harmony.

The Tyrone model, a medium sized black man is a Gaia orientated humanoid that hasdeveloped an appreciation of his lack of access and is obsessed with accessing one of the highlevel data nodes on the Acuitas ³Insight´ world ship. Within the Culture the players areconsidered valuable commodities because they are off the grid and don¶t have built insecurity locks to prevent them accessing the data nodes. Tyrone has managed to manipulatethe players to access the data node.Tyrone Gaia 3-12Appearance: Middle height negro man of 30 years age approximately. Dressed in Black andgray padded Jumpsuit with green lapels. His eyes are grey his hair is black.Personality. Patient, talks fast except when emphasizing safe words and the concept of harmony to the players.Motivation: Describes the players as ³heros´ and describes other units as ³brother´, ³weappreciate what your species has done´. Once they have served his purpose he will tradethem on to another group. Will try to get biological samples from them and if any of them diewill take the opportunity to dissect them for research purposes. Will not try to actively harmthem but his perspective is without the normal ethical orientations of humans.ST 30 Dex 15Int 18 Ht 18SecondaryHp 30 Fp 30 Will 18 Perception 18 Base Movement 9Advantages Can see far into the UV and infrared spectrum, can uplink via wave into network.Very Strong and capable of mimicking sound.Disadvantages Inbuild security protocols and clearances established by HarmonySkills
