The Precolonial Kingdoms

So, after Spain, why should I not pass with the Philippines before Spain conquered us. The very first Filipinos were the same Austronesians that left South China, and with their balangays, they sailed to unknown lands and landed at different parts of the world, as far as Madagascar. That explains why Filipinos are born travelers, and settlers.

Basically the Kingdom of Maynila is a relatively new kingdom in the Island of Luzon in 1571. Bisayas has not heard of it yet. But in Luzon, the precursor of the Kingdom of Maynila or the earliest Kingdom of Luzon is the Namayan Kingdom which held the capital at Maysapan, in the site of modern Sta. Ana. The kingdom at its peak reached the area of Taguig. With the decline of Namayan influence in Luzon came the rise of the Kingdom of Tondo, situated strategically in the land where the Manila Bay and the Pasig River meet, it established relations with China and is a thriving trade depot that time. Actually Tondo is in existence in much earlier time as proven by the Laguna Copperplate Inscription. The Bornean Kings, contesting the feared Tondo Monopoly on the China Trade. They established a Kingdom in the South of Tondo, where is was named Seludong, the name for Manila as narrated by the histories of the Tausug and Malay Royal Families. That is why the Visayas of Magellans Time did not know much of Maynila then, it was a new entity back them.

Datu Puti, along with 9 other, escaping from the collapsing Sri Vajaya Empire in Borneo, and Landed to the Panay Island. The confederation of the ten datus in Panay is called Madya-as the confederation lived until the conquest of Legaspi. In Sugbo (Cebu), the rulers of prehispanic Cebu started from Sri Lumay from the Sumatra. This is stated in a native poem Diyandi which was written during the time of Datu Tupas. The poem is tranlated to Filipino by Jovito Abellana in 1998. The poem narrates the repulsion of the Muslim Invaders by Sri Lumay. Of course, it was Samar Island which prominently figured out in the story of the first contact of Spain, it was in Samar where Magellan was welcomed by the natives.

The very first states of Mindanao is connected to the other states of the Bornean Kings, we have the still existent Sultanates of Sulu and Maguindanao. There is a conferedation for the Lanao and the Kingdom of Butuan. Though ruled by Ilamic Kings, the majority of the population is still not Muslim. It might have been a big challenge to keep this geographical entity with multiple political entities singular, but how did the Spanish did it? Posted on 31 May 2011, 6:52 PM Permalink Notes: 12 1. 2.
