Let us fast in the month of Ramadan & Guide others to fast

Ramadan is an Arabic word. It is the 9th month in the Islamic lunar calendar. Holy Quran(2:185) states:
Ramadan is the (month) In which was sent down The Quran, as a guide To mankind, also clear (signs) For guidance and judgment ( Between right and wrong). So every one of you Who is present( at his home ) During that month Should spend it in fasting, But if any one is ill , Or on a journey, The prescribed period (Should be made up) By days later. God intends every facility For you ; He does not want To put you to difficulties. ( He wants you ) to complete The prescribed period And to glorify Him In that He has guided you; And perchance ye shall be grateful. On this verdict of Quran fasting is observed as one of the duties in Islam. Muslims of Tamil Nadu have been observing fasting from 2-8-2011. Almost all the states in India observed fasting on the same day. In many Muslim countries Ramadan fasting has commenced from 1-8-2011. This practice of observing fasting after verifying the sighting of Ramadan crescent and announcement made in this regard on different dates has been adopted as a common practice. The purpose of fasting during Ramalaan is to burn down the evils of the body and the evils of sins of heart. In the month of Ramalaan on each day from dawn to dust we keep away from food and drinks and avoid sexual contact with wife and thus we observe a saintly life. It is a historical fact that during the period of solitery and sleepless meditation by the Prophet in the caves of mount Hira that the arch angel Gabriel revealed Holy Quran to him from Almighty Allah.. Al-Ameen after revelation became Prophet Muhammed (Sal) Holy Quran was revealed in the month of Ramalaan. In this month of Ramalaan one night called Lailathul Qadr far superior than 1000 months falls on the last ten days in odd number. God bestows His Bounty on this night. It is a golden opportunity to fast in the month of Ramalaan,to beg His pardon, to recite Quran in the day and night , understand and follow its teachings. Those who utilize this opportunity in reality bestow great benefits to the world. The Great Tamil saint Thiruvalluvar states that to remove poverty from this world all should observe fasting. He says those who observe fasting in the world are a few and there are many who do not observe fasting. Hence a large number of people suffer in poverty To remove poverty from the world people should observe fasting. Yes, let us fast and guide people to fast.

Holy Quran Speaks

O` You who believe! Fasting is prescribed For you, as it was Prescribed for those Before you, so that You may guard ( Against evils)
(Quran: 2 :183)

Sayings of the Prophet (Sal)

The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) says, Ramadan has come to you. It is a month of blessing, in which Allah covers you with blessing, for He sends down Mercy, decreases sins and answers prayers. In it, Allah looks at your competition (in good deeds), and boasts about you to His angels. So show Allah goodness from yourselves, for the unfortunate one is he who is deprived in (this month) of the mercy of Allah, the Mighty, the Exalted. (Narrated by Tabarani)

Sahl ibn Sad reported that the Prophet (pbuh) said: There is a gate to Paradise that is called ar-Rayyan. On the Day of Resurrection it will say: Where are those who fasted? When the last [one] has passed through the gate, it will be locked. This is related by al- Bukhari and Muslim.

Silver Jubilee Celebration of Sirajul Millath Welfare Association

I am happy to know that Sirajul Millath Welfare Association, Ayyampettai, Tanjore District is celebrating the Silver Jubilee year of the Association on 3rd September, 2011 at Ayyampettai and a Souvenir is being brought out on this occasion. Tamil Nadu is distinguished itself as a historical place for Indian Union Muslim League and it was in Chennai where IUML was born on 10.3.1948 under the great leadership of Quide Millat Mohamed Ismail Saheb. The history of IUML unfold many personalities in the ranks of the leadership from Tamil Nadu like Abdul Samad Saheb, Abdul Wahab Jani, A.K. Rifai, Madurai Shareef, Baker, A.M. Yousuf, M.A. Latheef, S.A. Khwaja Mohideen. But, A.K.A. Abdul Samad Saheb assurned the distinguished place among the leaders from Tamil Nadu, after Quide Milla t, who was embodiment of all virtue befitting for Muslim League leader and emerged as an indom table figure among the leaders from Tamil Nadu. My association with Samad Saheb goes back for decades, may be beyond 1950s, when I was in the Muslim Students Federation movement. Samad Saheb was the person authorised by Quide Millat to deal with Muslim League leaders in Kerala, especially through his very close association with late M.K. Haji Saheb (who was the Treasurer of Malabar District Muslim League

pursued by the Kerala State Muslim League. In the changed national political situation, while the Congress Party was opposed by the Muslim League in many other parts of the country, Congress Muslim League political alliance in Kerala under special circumstances was being continued intact. Like Quide Millat, Samad Saheb was always there to strive to project the Congress-League alliance inspite of murmurs and short-sighted vision in the party, echoing C.H. Mohamed Koya Sahebs retorts to the critics of Congress League Alliance. (The then) President and General Secretary of IUML (Ibrahim Sulaiman Sait Saheb and Banatwalla Saheb respectively), were being supported in Manjeri and Ponnani constituencies as their (Congress) own candidates. IS it not the recognition of Muslim League by the Congress? There were numerous instance like that. After Kerala leaders like Bafakhy Thangal, Pookoya Thangal, C.H. Mohamed Koya all left the scene, I had the onerous responsibility to carry forward the deep rooted and close relationship with Samad Saheb and his colleagues in Tamil Nadu. I swear, I did carry this mission whole-heartedly with the consent and approval of the leadership in Kerala. In all the elections contested by the Muslim League in Tamil Nadu, whether in alliance with Congress party or any other party, I was with Samad Saheb. Abdul Samad Saheb always treated me not only as a close colleague of the party, but also as a member in his family. We were almost in the same wave length. Samad Saheb attached great importance to my views. The emergence of the present President of Tamil Nadu State Muslim League and the National General Secretery of IUML, Prof. K.M. Kader Mohideen, I would say without any hesitation, I also played a significant role, which only Samad Saheb and myself know. Samad Saheb never allowed himself to be carried away by those who tried to demolish the base of the great political movement of the IUML, and he never joined hands with short-sighted, selfish, overambitious and narrow-minded elements to the detriment of the great values and guidance of the Quide Millat. He knew how to sacrifice, but he did not know how to betray. He always condemned those who betrayed the party for selfish motives. May Allah give him Maghfirath and Marhamath. - E.Ahamed

and right hand man of Syed Abdur Rahman Bafakhy Thangal and a Muslim Leaguer from Malabar based in chennai). To illustrate how importance was given to Samad Saheb by Quide millat, one can very well understand that Samad Saheb was authorised to go to Kerala to file the nomination papers on behalf of Quide Millat when Quide Millat at last agreed to contest to LokSabha from Manjeri Parliament Constituency in Kerala. For Muslim Leagures in Kerala, Samad Saheb was a Friend, Philosopher and Guide and all his political activities deeply rooted with party affairs in Kerala. The great leader C.H. Mohamed Koya Saheb used to make observation that Samad Saheb was known as an Associate Member of Kerala State Muslim League. Without fear of contradiction, I would say that Samad Saheb was always careful not to deviate the programmes and policies being adopted and

The Fasting of Ramadan: A Time for Thought, Action, and Change!

in Ramadan develops in a person the real spirit of social belonging, of unity and brotherhood, and of equality before God. This spirit is the natural product of the fact that when people fast they feel that they are joining the whole Muslim society (which makes up more than one fifth of worlds population) in observing the same duty, in the same manner, at the same time, for the same motives, and for the same end. No sociologist or historian can say that there has been at any period of history anything comparable to this powerful institution of Islam: Fasting in the month of Ramadan. People have been crying throughout the ages for acceptable belonging, for unity, for brotherhood, for equality, but how echoless their voices have been, and how very little success they have met... says Hammudah Abdalati, in Islam in Focus. What is fasting? How does the fasting of Muslims in Ramadan differ from the fasting of other faiths? Why should one torture ones body in the first place? What do you really gain from fasting in the end?...These are a few questions that a number of non-Muslim friends and colleagues often ask us, usually out of fascination with this spiritually-uplifting practice of Islamic faith, and at times out of pity and sympathy for us, thinking, why should anyone suffer from hunger and thirst like Muslims? I wouldnt be surprised if many of us shared the same negative perception of Fasting. It is important to note that Fasting in Arabic is called, Sawm, which literally means to be at rest. Fasting in the month of Ramadan (the 9th month of the Islamic lunar calendar) is one of the Five Pillars upon which the house of Islam is built. During this month, every able-bodied Muslim, is required to fast, everyday from dawn until dusk 12 Reasons To Fast! 1. Fasting is an institution for the improvement of moral and

Fasting

effects of Fasting in this respect as well. 5. It cultivates in us the principle of sincere love, because when we observe Fasting, we do it out of deep love for God. And a person, who loves God, truly is a person who knows what love is and why everyone on this Earth should be loved and treated justly, for the sake of God. 6. Fasting elevates the human spirit and increases our awareness of God. It strengthens our willpower as we learn to rise above our lower desires. The institution of fasting is both unique and a shared experience in human history. From the very beginning of time, humans have struggled to master their physical and psychological selves: their bodies and their emotions. Hunger is one the most powerful urges that we experience. Many, through overor under-eating or consumption of unhealthy foods, abuse this urge. Thus, when a person purposefully denies something to their own self that it craves, they are elevating their mind above their body, and their reason and will above their carnal passions. A fasting person empties his stomach of all the material things: to fill his soul with peace and blessings, to fill his heart with love and sympathy, to fill his spirit with piety and Faith, to fill his mind with wisdom and resolution, says H. Abdalati in Islam in Focus. The person who can rule their desires and make them work, as they like, has attained true moral excellence. 7. With the clarity of mind and absence of distractions, also comes a greater focus. As students, the period of fasting, especially early during the day, serves as a tool to focus our minds on our academics. In the month of Ramadan, many Muslims try to avoid watching TV, listening to music, and some other leisure activities, which spares them more time and energy to be spent on more productive activities such as academics, intense study of Islam, voluntary prayers, social

spiritual character of human being. The purpose of the fast is to help develop self-restraint, selfpurification, God-consciousness, compassion, the spirit of caring and sharing, the love of humanity and the love of God. Fasting is a universal custom and is advocated by all the religions of the world, with more restrictions in some than in others. The Islamic Fast, as opposed to mere starvation or self-denial, is an act of worship and obedience to God, thanksgiving, forgiveness, spiritual training, and self-examination. 2. Ramadan gives us a break and provides us with a rare opportunity to think about our own selves, our future, and our families. It is a time to give our selves a mental break and to temporarily forget about the hundreds of worries and stresses we are constantly bombarded with. In hectic times, such as ours, and in places like the West, this valuable time to think about our lives, on individual basis, is a luxury and is desperately needed! It is a unique month of self-analysis, and of taking stock of ones moral and spiritual assets and liabilities. 3. Fasting indoctrinates us in patience, unselfishness, and gratitude. When we fast we feel the pains of deprivation and hunger, and learn how to endure it patiently. The meaning of this powerful experience in a social and humanitarian context is that we are much quicker than anybody else in

sympathizing with the oppressed and needy around the world, and responding to their needs. It is the month to visit the poor, the sick, and the needy to share their sorrows. It is the month where the food, sustenance and the earnings of a believing Muslim increases and they are blessed, says the Final Prophet of God, Muhammad (peace be upon him), a man who was known for his noble humanitarian causes, for social justice, and for being the first to respond to others needs, despite the fact that he himself lived a very simple and humble life. It is only during such a trying time as Ramadan that we can reflect on the condition of those in this world who may not be as fortunate as us. 4. Fasting in Ramadan enables us to master the art of mature adaptability and TimeManagement. We can easily understand this point when we realize that fasting makes people change the entire course of their daily life. When they make the change, they naturally adapt themselves to a new system and schedule, and move along to satisfy the rules. This, in the long run, develops in them a wise sense of adaptability and selfcreated power to overcome the unpredictable hardships of life! A person who values constructive adaptability, time-management, and courage will appreciate the

and humanitarian causes, and a quality time with the family, to name a few. It is a reminder of our duty to God, our purpose and higher values in life, as God Himself describes the purpose of fasting as follows, O you who Believe! Fasting has been prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, so that you may develop consciousness of God (Quran 2:183). 8. Fasting has numerous, scientifically proven, benefits for our physical health and mental wellbeing. The time, length and nature of the Islamic Fast all contribute to its overall positive effect. One of the medical benefits is a muchneeded rest to the digestive system. The reduced food intake during the day allows the body to concentrate on getting rid of harmful dietary toxins accumulated as natural by-products of food digestion throughout the year. The length of the Islamic Fast itself (around 12-14 hours) is in sync with the transit time of food from the mouth to the colon of the large intestine, ensuring that no stimulus reaches the stomach or digestive system while it remains in homeostasis. Therefore, for the vast majority of healthy individuals fasting poses no medical risks but in fact provides many health benefits, such as: an increase in serum Magnesium, essential for cardio-vascular health and prevention of heart complications; improvement in the quality and depth of sleep; improvement in memory and slower skin aging over time; increased production of growth hormone, etc. Also, as a general note, it has been observed that underfed animals live longer than their heavily fed counterparts and suffer fewer illnesses during their lives. 9. The month of Ramadan provides us with a sort of Boot camp. It is a month of intense moral training. Since we know that Fasting is a special duty prescribed by God, we learn that any sins may spoil our record of fasting with God, so we go through great lengths making sure we are on our best behavior. Many people who experience fasting in this month, feel the impact that this intense training has on their habits, and realize the power of this transformative tool designed to make us better human beingsthe ultimate goal of any spiritual exercise. The entire Ramadan atmosphere provides the driving force for this positive change. 10. It makes us realize the reality of life and death. Fasting makes us realize how dependant our lives are on things that we often take for granted, such as food and water. It makes us think about our dependence on God and Gods mercy and justice. Moreover, it reminds us of the life after death, which itself has a great impact on our character and our world-view. 11. Ramadan is a blessed month for a special reason: It is actually the month in which God first revealed His final message and guidance for mankind to our beloved Prophet Muhammad. This message has been perfectly preserved both orally and textually in the form of a Book, called the Quran (The Reading/Recital). Therefore, Muslims try to do an intense study of the Quran in this month especially, and evaluate their lives according to the standards and guidance contained in it. 12. After the month of Ramadan is over, Muslims celebrate one of

5
the two most important holidays in the Islamic year: EID-ULFITR, or the Festival of the Fast Breaking. It is a day to thank God for the blessing and training that He provides us with throughout the month of Ramadan. EID-ULFITR is marked by praying in a huge congregation at an Islamic center or mosque, and by giving a small donation to the poor in the community. The adults give the donation on behalf of their children as well. Dinner parties, family outings, fairs, carnivals, and great joyous celebrations follow the prayer and charity. In a nutshell, even though the real purpose of the dynamic institution of Fasting is to discipline our soul and moral behavior, and to develop sympathy for the less fortunate, it is a multi-functional and a comprehensive tool of change in various spheres of our lives, including: social and economic, intellectual and humanitarian, spiritual and physical, private and public, personal and common, inner and outer all in one!

With elections round the corner, the season of iftar is in full bloom in UP. Major political parties in the state are gearing up to use the occasion to woo the Muslim voters and also display their popularity among the minority community. Incidentally, it was former Chief Minister Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna who started the trend of political iftars in the seventies and the attendance at such functions later became a barometer for a partys popularity among minorities. The Samajwadi Party known to host one of the best-attended and biggest iftar parties in Lucknow plans to make this years iftar bigger than the best. We are yet to finalise the date because most leaders are busy in the Parliament session. Iftar parties need to be avoided:

Maulana Mufti Mohammad Nadeemuddin Siddiqui

s soon as the Holy month of Ramadan arrives, Muslims pay more attention towards showing off, gaining political mileage or serving varieties of delicacies at iftar parties in the name of national integrity, instead of helping poor, needy and orphans, providing financial help to poor and middle class unmarried girls for getting married, providing shelter to the homeless, providing educational facilities to the promising Muslim children, arranging food for poor families,. If this money is spend on the above said noble causes, though one may not get fame but it will serve as provisions for the Hereafter. These views were expressed by Mualana Mufti Mohammad Nadeemuddin Siddiqui, spokesman Ahlesunnat wal jamaat addressing before the Khutba on Friday. Maulana stressed that today Muslims are spending excessive money on worldly interests and works related to fame, instead of gaining Allahs pleasure. He exhorted Muslims not to waste their good deed of enduring hunger and thirst and their prayers by arranging iftar parties for political motives, name and fame.

at a one-day seminar (30 May 2011) at Hyderabad on the lives and times of the first Muslim freedom fighter Allama Fazl-e Haq Khairabadi to mark his 150th anniversary of his martyrdom for the cause of the countrys independence unanimously demanded his sacrifice be recognised properly. The one-day seminar, held at the Jubilee Hall to mark the freedom fighters 150th martyrdom day, highlighted the Islamic theologians contribution not just by his active participation in the freedom struggle during its initial days, but also the fact that his efforts galvanised the people of the country to rise up against the mighty British who were ruling India. Hailing the Allamas efforts, the speakers, including Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, Congress party general secretary Abid Rasool Khan and others, demanded that the Central recognise these by releasing a postage stamp in his honour. They also demanded that the Allamas life and his rebellion against the British be included in the syllabi of schools and colleges at the national-level. They also passed a resolution demanded that two buildings, one each in the state and at the Centre, be renamed after the first Islamic theologian who revolted against the British. Apart from this, the speakers also demanded that the Union Government establish a research centre to enable scholars study the contribution of Muslims for the freedom of the country from 1857 till Independence. The speakers pointed out that the Allama was in the forefront of the Sepoy Mutiny. He instigated the armed uprising and when the British crushed the indigenous ill-equipped and disorganized native rebel army and gained full control of Delhi, the Allama was tried and banished to the Andamans on charges of treason. The Allama boldly took the charge on his head and went to the Andamans where he breathed his last in 1861. He was just one of the umpteen number of Muslim Heroes and Martyrs of the freedom struggle against the British since the middle of the eighteenth century who have been totally forgotten and erased even from the written history and memory, the speakers said. The speakers pointed out that the total neglect in mention of the great freedom fighter is indeed a gross injustice to all those brave-hearts who sacrificed their all and martyred themselves to the cause of the freedom of India. The seminar was organised by the Markazi Majlis-e Quadria.

Obama Hosts Iftar Dinner, Remembers Sept. 11 Attacks

U.S. President Barack Obama has hosted an Iftar dinner at the White House, welcoming guests including diplomats, administration officials and U.S. lawmakers to the evening meal when Muslims break their daily fast during the holy month of Ramadan. Obama used the event on August 10 to recognize Muslim survivors of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, in which Al-Qaeda operatives hijacked airliners to strike targets in New York City and Washington. With the 10th anniversary of the attacks coming in one month, Obama said now is a good time to remember that people of many backgrounds were among some 3,000 people of many faiths and backgrounds were killed in the attacks, proud and patriotic Muslim Americans. Obama has hosted an Iftar dinner each year since he took office in 2009. His predecessor, George W. Bush, also hosted annual Iftar events.

Satanic preaching at sahar time

The holy month of Ramadan is progressing and the faithful are dutifully observing the fasting and devote much of their time in the pursuit if earning the Mercy of Allah. It is also considered as the month of charity as most of the devout Muslims give charity particularly the zakath money to the deserving people. Muslims in the month of Ramadan commonly engage in the deeds of piety and virtue. But there are a few group of people in Tamil Nadu, who grab the electronic media to settle their scores in this month. They hire the electronic media at a huge cost at the prime sahar time and indulge in vituperative propaganda against their rival group. During World War II, Ghani came to be the Minister FOR STATE IN Subhas Boses Azad Hind government and was in Malaya. He was also the manager of The Muslim Publishing House, the editor of the Malayasian Tamil daily Malayan Nanban, as well as the editor of the Malay edition Dawn, under the name Sinaran. Ghani was involved also involved with the Muslim League and was the president of the All Malaya Muslim Missionary Society (AMMMS) and an official in several other organizations. After the end of WWII, Ghani was involved in South-East Asian Muslim politics, most notably being involved in the Maria Hertogh riots in Singapore in 1950. Karim Gani was the editor of Tamil and Burmese newspapers in Burma. He was the secretary of the Youth League of the Chulia Association and was elected to the legislative Assembly of Burma in 1932 and to the House of Representatives in 1936.[1] His name was included in the list of persons to be arrested immediately in the British Intelligence report.[2] Before the Second World War Karim Ghani was a parliamentary secretary in Burma under Dr. Ba Maw. KARIM GANI in South-East Asian Muslim politics, most notably being involved in the Maria Hertogh riots in Singapore in 1950. The Maria Hertogh riots or Natrah riots started on 11 December 1950 in Singapore, following the court decision to give the custody of Maria Hertogh (or Bertha Hertogh), then 13, to her biological Dutch Catholic parents after she had been raised as a Muslim under the care of Aminah binte Mohamed, whom she regarded as her mother. The riots lasted until noon on 13 December, with 18 killed, 173 injured and many properties damaged the worst incident of its kind ever witnessed in Singapore. The court decision in August 1950 and the widespread news coverage of the legal battle for custody had evoked widespread agitations in the Malayan and South-East Asian Muslim population who regarded Maria as a follower of the Muslim faith and came to interpret press

SUBASH CHANDRA BOSE coverage as portraying Maria as a Christian. An organization calling itself the Nadra Action Committee was formally constituted under the leadership of Karim Ghani. This extreme organization solicited support among local Muslims by distributing free copies of its newspaper, the Dawn (not the Dawn, an English paper published in Pakistan). Karim Ghani had also made an open speech at the Sultan Mosque on 8 December in which he mentioned jihad as a final resort. Ghanis comments were followed by widespread riots and violence beginning on 11 December and continued till the 13th. In total, 18 people were killed, among whom were seven Europeans or Eurasians, two police officers, and nine rioters shot by the police or military, 173 were injured, many of them seriously, 119 vehicles were damaged, and at least two buildings were set on

fire. Subsequently, two weeks of 24-hour curfew were imposed, and it was a long time before complete law and order was re-established. After the riot, the police set up a special investigation unit which detained 778 people, among them Karim Ghani, who was arrested along with several members of the Nadra Action Committee and held at the detention camp on Saint Johns Island for 15 months under Emergency Regulation 20 for his part in the riots before being released on grounds of poor health. Azad Hind- Free India , this was the slogan used by the freedom fighters of India. Karim Ghany is alleged to have pioneered the first Jawi Scripted Malay newspaper in Malaya. He was a prolific writer who could write in English, Malay, Jawi, Arabic, Urdu and Tamil. Karim also started the first Tamil newspaper, The Malaya Nanban. Maria was represented by David Marshal a prominent lawyer from Singapore who in his later years had to remark, if this case would have been heard in any other circumstances the verdict would have been otherwise He was referring to the last hurrah of the British who wanted to salvage their Christian pride by admonishing the weak Malay Muslim populace. In the riots that followed many people were killed and many a Muslims who abetted the rioters were charged. Among them were many Tamil Muslim leaders who were sentenced to be hanged. These Tamil Muslim traders were the Islamic icons for the newly independent Malaya. Karim Ghany was a Tamil Muslim (modern day Tamil Nadu in the south of India). He was given an ultimatum by the British government, that he was to be banished to a country of his choice. He chose Pakistan and he died a devastated man in the newly formed Islamic country.

Status quo or change?

quo is a Latin term meaning the current or existing state of affairs. To maintain the status quo is to keep the things the way they presently are. The related phrase status quo ante means the state of affairs that existed previously. To prevent change, status quo is often preserved. The term commonly refers to the status of a large issue, such as social climate or political climate. Conservatism Conservatism is yet another political philosophy that promotes status quo, and opposes change. Richard Hooker was the founding father of conservatism. It must be remembered that those who subscribed to status quo and conservatism always opposed to reformation, renaissance and revolution. In this context we must remember that the Irish politician Edmund Burk, who served in the British House of Commons opposed the French Revolution. The British psychologist Glenn Wilson is of the opinion that the general factor underlying conservative beliefs is fear of uncertainty. Many political leaders at present are haunted by uncertainty. Some of them are put in dilemma pushed between status quo and change. Many of them are sticking to status quo because they do not perceive a better solution, not because they are happy with the way things are. Conservatism and wealth Conservatism often collaborates with wealth and corrupts politics. Political parties are under siege

According to Lewis, Islam from the first denounced aristocratic privilege, rejected hierarchy and adopted a formula of the career open to the talents. Since Islam encouraged and supported change the flag of Islam passed on from one hand to another, Arabs to Ottomans, Ottomans to Persians , Persians to Mughals and was ever spreading and expanding its domain. At present the entire world witness Islamic activism blowing in all the directions of the world East, West, South and North. One must understand that the voices of Islam is the voices of change. The great Islamic scholar Dr.Sadiq Abba of political science department University of Abuja, Nigeria says that Islam is not only confined to daily rituals like prayers, rather , Islam is a complete way of life and as such bringing about a change to have an Islamic society is a duty bound upon all Muslims pointing out that CHANGE shall exist even if majority of people refuse to carry it out. The entire humanity thrives on trust and hope. No hope, no sacrifice. No sacrifice , no change. No change, status quo. Status quo ends in delusion. Decide now status quo or change. Warren Bennis by a few whose wealth and power are diminishing the role of genuine party workers and the rich exert control over the party decision. Though the rich do not make up a significant portion of political parties, their influence is great .They have lobbyists, and money to influence the people in the power to get the things done through them. Politicians rob the sweat of workers to protect the wealthy. At the centre of every government scandal or controversy are wealthy men. Take the Iraq war or 2G Spectrum scam. Politics is a rich mans game. We have seen in many cases how money vetoed the majority decision and fetched the power to the wealthy. A rich mans money sweets honey and every one wants to lick it. It is a sign of decay to run after the rich people who have no time for new ideas, thinking is taboo among them and the joys of the intellect is beyond their reach. History has not recorded any great achievement by wealthy people specially in politics. The democratic process

Edmund Burke can never be true democratic as long as money can be converted in to power. Change Change means passing from one phase to another or to replace with another. Warren Bennis defines change as a conscious, deliberate and collaborative effort to improve the operations of a human system. The President of U.S.A Barack Obama stated during his election campaign I know that real change has never been easy and it wont be easy this time either. But dont ever forget that you have the power to change this country. He accomplished what he cherished . Change is not simply a matter of belief, but a dire necessity for the human progress. The voice of Islam is the voice of change. Islam brought tremendous changes in social, economic and political fields. Islam is not a static religion but a vibrant, dynamic and forward moving. Investigating the investigation

the methods of terror investigation is always a challenge because it is so easily seen as defending the enemies of the nation. The exercise is monumentally difficult after a benumbing bomb attack especially if it has been judged to be the work of a home-grown Islamist organisation. The raging anger at this time is in fact against too little, too careful policing, with voices clamouring for instant punishment to the perpetrators. And should the police, under pressure, go off beam and name a few incorrect names and round up a few misidentified suspects, the wrong is seen, not as a wrong, but, in a perverted sort of way, as a balancing act, a compensation for the injustice done to the terror victims. Even from a liberal point this can appear as unavoidable collateral damage suffered in the larger battle against terrorism. But anguished demands for action and lashing out at imagined culprits can be horribly, embarrassingly off the mark, as the Anders Breivik shootings so chillingly demonstrated. The automatic assumption after the Oslo killings was that Islamists were behind it. Yet Breivik turned out to be insanely anti-Muslim. Imagine the decibel levels of antiMuslim voices had Breivik not been found out as soon as he was. Within hours of the Oslo outrage, the Wall Street Journal ran a biting editorial (since revised) blaming it on Islamist terrorists: The jihadists, the leader said, had extracted a terrible price because of Norways commitment to freedom of speech and conscience and every other freedom that still defines the West. The WSJ leader went beyond the terror attack and became an ideological tirade against a faith seen to be in a classic clash against liberal Western values. Back in India, there was the usual rush of slanted commentaries after the July 13, 2011 serial bombings in Mumbai. Even if the outrage was masterminded by the Indian Mujahideen (IM) or some other Islamist organisation as indicated by the Union Home Minister there was little

Questioning

justification for the offensive antiMuslim tone in the post-blasts public conversation. A celebrity columnist blamed vote bank compulsions for the governments failure to crush domestic terrorism. The sub-text: The investigating agencies needed to be ruthless in picking up Muslim suspects. On social networking sites, the language was coarser with not a few demanding saturation combing of Muslim neighbourhoods. Reporters freely identified alleged IM terrorists even as one hatespewing newspaper article demanded disenfranchisement of Muslims for their alleged role in commissioning terror acts. The Oslo shootings reinforced a point that was self-evident and yet seemed to require re-stating every time a bomb blast shattered the peace anywhere in India. Terror wears the mask of religion and this religion can be Islam, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism or something else. From Nathuram Godse in 1948 to Breivik today, we have seen terrorists claiming affinity to a host of faiths and ideologies. Nonetheless, Muslims alone have been made to feel that they have somehow to answer for

the perverted acts of their alleged co-religionists. When Muslim boys are picked up and shown off as terrorists, there is rarely any interrogation of the police accounts despite their dreary sameness. Over the past many years, we have become habituated to seeing young Muslim men, their faces covered, being paraded at press conferences. Each of these has been a trophy moment for the police and a spectacular newsbreak for the press. What happens when the same men are later released because the prosecution could not produce an iota of evidence? Indeed, the spate of acquittals in many of the terror cases ought to induce some rethinking on policing methods and the rationality of picking up suspects just to be able to show quick, dramatic results. Whether it is Godhra 2002, the Delhi blasts of 2005 and 2008, the Mumbai train attacks of 2006, Mecca Masjid cases of 2007 or men and boys routinely picked up and charged with terrorism, the evidence presented in the courts has proved over and over to be wafer thin. Maulana Umarji was not only the key conspirator in the Godhra train burning, but, according to then media reportage, he actively incited the mob. In February 2011, he was acquitted along with 63 others. As Jyoti Punwani noted in The Hindu , the Maulana had in fact played the opposite role, expressing regret on behalf of his community, publicly and repeatedly. Dozens of boys arbitrarily picked up by the Andhra Pradesh police and

chargesheeted in the Mecca Masjid blasts have since been honourably acquitted and are currently fighting to be compensated for the slur cast on them. Mohammad Salman, an alleged IM operative, whom the police recently linked to the July 13, 2011 Mumbai bombings, citing his interrogation report in the 2008 Delhi blasts case, turned out to have been discharged in that case. When the case came up in court, the seizure memos of the Uttar Pradesh police and the Delhi police did not match; the police showed his age as 27 when his parents were married in 1990 and his school certificate showed his birth year as 1992. The Hindu came across several cases of blatant falsification of evidence against alleged terrorists. The Lucknow polices case against Kolkata resident Aziz-ur-Rahman was that on June 22, 2007, he and four others arrived in Lucknow armed with huge amounts of RDX and other explosives. On June 23 after the Lucknow police arrested two of them Rahman dumped the explosives in a hollow behind the citys Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences and returned to Kolkata. When defence counsel Mohammad Shoaib took up the case, he came across a glaring discrepancy. On June 23, 2007, Rahman was in the custody of the Jadavpur police facing a theft charge a fact established by his production the same day before Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (Alipore) J. Koley. But because Rahman was also charged under Section 399 (dacoity) in another case, Mr. Koley, in his order dated June 22, 2007, granted his custody to the West Bengal CID. The most devastating blow to the prosecution case was dealt on February 2 this year by Delhi (Dwarka courts) Additional Sessions Judge Virender Bhat. Mr. Bhats judgment, delivered with rapier sharp wit and sarcasm, is a testament on the functioning of the Delhis polices anti-terrorism wing, and ought to be compulsory reading for all those training to be investigators. If nothing else, they would learn the art of credible fabrication. The prosecution case: At around

midnight on June 27, 2005, an elite team led by anti-terrorism officer Ravinder Tyagi (the CBI asked for his punishment in another fabricated case), staged an encounter on the Gurgaon-Delhi Road which resulted in the capture of four alleged ISI agents and Kashmiri terrorists, Saqib Rahman alias Masood, Nazir Ahmad Sofi, Gulam Moinuddin Dar and Bashir Ahmed Shah. Mr.Tyagi had secret information that preparatory to a massive bomb attack in the Capital, the terrorists, carrying huge amounts of arms and ammunition, would be reaching Delhi from Gurgaon in a Tata Indica car. The raiding party, travelling in two vehicles, a Swaraj Mazda and a Maruti Gypsy, gave chase to the Tata Indica and blocked it from both ends. Terrorist Masood came out of the car and fired two rounds on the police party. Mr. Tyagi and his men overpowered the terrorists, including terrorist Dar who was about to lob a hand grenade. In his judgment, Mr. Bhat tore the police version to shreds. The judge found it shocking and unbelievable that Mr. Tyagi took his own time to act on the secret information and did not pass it on to his superiors. What if the terrorists had struck? he asked, concluding that either there was no information or Mr. Tyagi had ulterior motives. About the policemen being able to easily disarm the terrorists, he said: Such kind of imaginary bravery is seen only in Bollywood Why would terrorists armed with AK 56 and hand grenades surrender to the police? The encounter should have been fierce. Nothing like this happened which shows it (encounter) is totally imaginary and conceived by the police to implicate the accused in a false case. The Judge pointed out a host of other errors and contradictions the site plan was falsified, the recoveries were planted, the terrorist vehicle, claimed by the police to have been stolen in May 2003, was registered only in July 2003. The prosecution case finally collapsed after the defence obtained the log book of the two police vehicles through Right to Information applications. The log book entries showed that neither the Swaraj Mazda nor the Gypsy went to the encounter spot on the night of June 27, 2005.

The state IUML has already alerted its cadres to be ready to face the local body election in the state. Further the right thinking people in the party expect that all those who are clinging to the party position without producing any result should be packed up and thrown out from the present positions lock stock and barrel paving way for the new blood. Further the party should not become an asylum for the rejected and dejected ones and it should not serve as a political sanctuary for business tycoons who fly to the party during the season of election mela to seek to quench their power thirst. People reasonably aspire that the party should strive to attract all sections of the community-intellectuals, enlighten, Ulamas, Writers, Journalist, Students, Youth, Working class and women and the police officer framing an innocent citizen in a false criminal case ... It is not only unethical but also illegal for an investigating agency to resort to concoction, padding, fabrication of evidence all serious offences under the law even to bring a known criminal to justice. Therefore the party needs Muslim Leaguers than Muslim League members.
