In January 2002, the Boston Globe began publishing a series
of investigative articles on the sexual abuse of minors by
priests in the Archdiocese of Boston. The Globe’s series of articles
in 2002, as well as the growing number of reports nationally
about priests who sexually abused minors, led to the
understanding that there was a sexual abuse “scandal” or
“crisis” in the Catholic Church.
