was the first post-apartheid ViceChancellor and Rector at the University of Fort Hare. He has taughtEnglish Studies, Comparative Literature, and African Studies atuniversities in Southern Africa, West Africa, Europe, America andAustralia and is currently Project Leader and Editor of a NationalDepartment of Arts and Culture initiative to produce an Encyclopediaof South African Arts, Culture and Heritage (ESAACH).His published works include

(1982).Mzamane was founder chairman of the Institute for the Advance-ment of Journalism (affiliated to the University of Witwatersrand) andchairman of the African Arts Fund (under the auspices of the UNCentre against Apartheid).He was appointed by President Nelson Mandela and PresidentThabo Mbeki to serve on the SABC Board and the Heraldry Council.He was also appointed by President Jacob Zuma to serve on thePresidential Review Committee on State-Owned Enterprises.
