Year 6 Kanchanaburi Camp

1 September 2011 Dear Parents and Students, The Year 6 team would like to inform you about some of the details concerning our trip to th th Kanchanaburi, which will be held from Tuesday the 15 to Friday the 18 November, 2011. The camp will allow your child to try many new and challenging activities in a safe and supported environment. Students will improve their self-confidence by participation in outdoor and indoor challenge activities; develop new leisure and team skills; widen friendships and understanding of their classmates; participate in activities relevant to our Sharing the planet and How we organise ourselves Units of Inquiry; and enjoy the spectacular landscape and wildlife in the Kanchanaburi region. As the camp is an integral part of the school programme, it is therefore an expectation that all students attend. Transport to Kanchanaburi will be provided by Montri and NIST buses. Our camp site will be the Pung-Waan Resort, Saiyoke, situated alongside the River Kwai, about a 30 minute drive from Kanchanaburi town centre. Please have a look at the resorts website at: http://www.pungwaanriverkwai.com/pungwaanresort/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1 The resort has very large and well maintained grounds; the rooms are comfortable and well serviced; and the other facilities, particularly the catering, are of high standard. We will enjoy buffet meals each day in a private eating hall. A range of nutritious foods will be offered to the students and of course those with specific dietary restrictions will be catered for. Throughout the entire camp, the children will be supervised by NIST staff members, including a school nurse. Highly trained outdoor activity staff will assist the students in their outdoor challenge activities in addition to the supervision provided by NIST staff members. The Year 6 group will have access to a private function hall for evening activities and the resorts grounds for the outdoor challenge activities. We ask that students DO NOT BRING with them to camp any mobile telephones or other electronic devices as this is a time when the children will develop new levels of independence. In case of an unforeseen emergency, we ask that parents make contact with the camp leader THROUGH THE SCHOOL OFFICE or on the emergency number which will be provided shortly before we leave. Should there be any need for the camp leader to contact parents during the camp, this will be made using the contact details that parents have provided to the school. Please ensure that your contact information on Veracross is up-to-date to avoid any difficulties in case of emergency.

We would like to extend an invitation to students and parents to together attend a Year 6 Camp Briefing which will provide more information about the camp and its activities. The briefing will be held in the NIST Theatre on the fourth level of the CAB building on Tuesday, 27th September from 5.30 to 6.30pm.
In the days following the briefing, further notices and consent forms will be sent home with the th students. These will need to be returned by Friday, October 7 so that we are able to meet requirements of the Thai Ministry of Education. We look forward to seeing you at the camp briefing and providing answers to any further questions you may have. Kind regards, The Year 6 Team
