STATEMENT OF OBJECTS AND REASONS
Amending Act 21 of 2009.-
The first National Judicial Pay Commission hasrequested the High Courts and State Governments/Union Territories Administration tomake necessary amendments to the term Civil Judge (Junior Division) and Civil Judge(Senior Division) mentioned in the respective enactments, rules, regulations, circularsetc., Therefore, it is considered necessary to amend the Karnataka Civil Courts Act,1964, to implement the above recommendations.Hence, the Bill.(LA Bill No.28 of 2009, File No.DPAL 31 Shasana 2008)(Entry 65 of List II of the Seventh Schedule to the Constitution of India.)

THE KARNATAKA CIVIL COURTS (AMENDMENT) ACT, 2009
(Received the assent of the Governor on the Twenty Sixth day of August, 2009)An Act further to amend the Karnataka Civil Courts Act, 1964.Whereas it is expedient further to amend the Karnataka Civil Courts Act, 1964(Karnataka Act 21 of 1964) for the purposes hereinafter appearing;Be it enacted by the Karnataka State Legislature in the Sixtieth year of the Republic of India, as follows:-
1. Short Title and Commencement.-
(1) This Act may be called the Karnataka Civil Courts(Amendment) Act, 2009.(2) It shall come into force at once.
2. Amendment of Sections 2, 3, 6,7, 8, 9, 13, 16, 17, 19, 20, 21, 23, 23A, 24, 25, 26,27 and 28.-
In the Karnataka Civil Courts Act, 1964 (Karnataka Act 21 of 1964) (hereinafterreferred to as the Principal Act), in sections 2, 3, 6,7, 8, 9, 13, 16, 17, 19, 20, 21, 23, 23A, 24, 25,26, 27 and 28,-(i)
 
for the words “Civil Judge (Senior Division)”, the words “Senior Civil Judge” and for the words “Court of a Civil Judge (Senior Division), the words “Court of a Senior Civil Judge”shall be substituted;(ii)
 
for the words “Civil Judge (Junior Division)”, the words “ Court of a Civil Judge (JuniorDivision)”, and for the words “Civil Judge” and “Court of a Civil Judge” shall respectivelybe substituted;
3. Substitution of Sections 30-A and 30-B.-
For section 30-A and 30-B of the PrincipalAct, the following shall be substituted, namely:-
“30-A. Substitution of the expressions “Senior Civil Judge”, “Civil Judge”, “Court of SeniorCivil Judge”, “Court of Civil Judge”, for the expressions in certain laws in force.-
Unless thecontext otherwise requires, in any law in force or rule, notification or order made thereunder, forthe expressions in column (1) below, the expressions in the corresponding entry in column (2)shall be substituted, namely:-
