As announced in last month’s
Matters
, withthis edition we say goodbye to Liz Clark, ourstalwart editor of the last four years or so. Lizhas wisely decided that it’s time to take abreak from the monthly routine of chasing copyand battling with printers, to concentrate onsome of her other interests — such as helpingto save the Zion Wildlife Park … and working ona number of other publications (the words‘glutton’ and ‘punishment’ come to mind). I’msure you’ll join me in a hearty vote of thanksfor her efforts over the years, and wish herwell for the future. Thankfully, she’ll still bedown the road to help offer advice and bail meout when I get stuck!As always when a new editor takes over, Iwon’t be able to resist doing a little tinkeringwith the
Matters
as time goes on. The aim of this will clearly be to make it better, not worse— so if there are any changes you’d like to see,please let me know either by email(maungaturotomatters@gmail.com) or by drop-ping a note in the red box in Tony’s.
Residents survey
This edition is also important because it seesthe first results of the Survey, which the Resi-dents Association ran a month or two back.Further results will be included in the next edi-tion. You’ll have seen the word cloud listingthe best things about living in Maungaturoto onthe front cover. Hidden rather more discreetlyin the centre pages is a smaller cloud summa-rising the things people didn’t like. The goodthings are clearly what we need to enjoy andprotect. The bad things, however, are no lessimportant because they are what we need towork on to improve. One of the key aims of the
Matters
will be to drum up support for suchwork — and to inform everyone of the progressthat we all make.So, I hope you enjoy reading this edition of the

as much as you’ve en-joyed reading previous ones. And — with theaid of the editorial committee and all the ea-ger volunteers involved in compiling, collatingand distributing the

ARTHRITIS NEW ZEALANDAPPEAL WEEK SEPTEMBER 20th to 26th
There will be no door to door collection in this area this year.
I have been diagnosed as having pseudo gout in my right knee – a form of arthritis. Therefore Ishall be unable to canvass the six out-lying roads I usually cover. And if I can’t lead by example....Personally I want to thank all those who have so generously donated all those years I have been Iinvolved. And to those wonderful collectors I say thank you - and thank you again!I shall endeavour to have a collection bucket or bag outside Tony’s or Four Square at times duringcollection week.
