What is MORAL SCIENCE? and what is COMMUNITY LIVING? Finally: what is VALUE EDUCATION?

What is Moral Science? Moral Science Science: a kind of study, knowledge acquisition Moral: the rights and wrongs of behaviour, customs, lifestyle

Approach: to inform...what is the meaning of kindness, honesty etc...

Focus: it is on a syllabus

Method: it is academic: A talk or notes to inform the student.

Goal: An informed person

What is Community living? Community: Awareness that we are part of a group that needs one another
Living: The right way to live togetherways and means of growing together

Approach - Guidance: how to live to deal with people etc

Focus - the Community: Working for the community

Method - Reflection: To think about the community

Goal:

UNITY!

What is Value Education? Value: something we cherish very much, something we spend a lot on
Education: a process that grows out of the personafter training and teaching

Approach - Integral: dealing with the person as a whole including his/her background

Focus: the person: In this approach the person is the centre not the value

Method - Experiential: Use experience to arrive at the goal


Goal: Maturity Fully mature for that phase of growth

VALUE EDUCATION entails the whole person within his/her surroundings s/he has a particular experience and after reflecting on it can analyze, identify and implement it and grow to maturity.

A process to bring about desirable changes in accordance with our concept of what is good. To develop in the child: knowledge/ skills/attitudes/values/behaviour patterns Therefore a curriculum is designed for this purpose

Development of proper values, feelings and behaviour patterns

OUR GOAL: Education to Becoming (EB)

Involves: Knowing, feeling, doing

Development of appropriate sensibilities

Leading to the Appreciation of Values

All comprehensive Environmental factors Involves emotions, sensitivities

DIRECTLY deliberately
INCIDENTALLY specific moments, e.g. failure, theft.valour

INDIRECTLY through a regular academic curriculum

The cumulative effect is: THE ASSIMILATION OF A VALUE
