NGFFL Accomplishments: Hosted Gay Bowl IV in 2004, which was the first time a non-founding city hosted the Gay Bowl; Added new traditions like city gifts, printed programs and a formal awards banquet. Current Director of Events for the NGFFL. Thurman was the defensive coordinator and led his Atlanta team to the finals of Gay Bowl V. He was again a team leader when Atlanta won the consolation bracket in Gay Bowl VII. Other Qualifications: Thurmans dedication to the NGFFL can best be shown by his participation on a non-NGFFL event, the 2006 Gay Games in Chicago. Thurman didnt have a team; In fact, Thurman didnt even play in the tournament. But Thurman went to the flag football tournament and for three days in sweltering heat he simply served the players and refs by making Gatorade and getting ice. Thats the kind of guy Thurman has been his entire NGFFL career: Sacrificing for others. On a local level, Thurman is a co-founder of the NFFLA, which has expanded to eight teams. He has served on the Atlanta Gay Sports Association Board for over five years, leveraging intra-sports community relationships to create awareness of NFFLA; and initiated sports recruitment event, facilitating expansion of NFFLA league.
