Setting Up An Account
1.
From the home page (http://delicious.com), click on the Join Now!link in the upper right corner of thepage.
2.
On the next page, enter your first andlast names and your email address. Youmust provide a valid email address whereyou can receive a verification email toactivate your account.

Next, select a user name and passwordby entering the information in the textboxes in the middle of the page. Click onthe Check button to the right of the Username text box to see if the user nameyou’ve selected is available (as indicatedby a green check mark).

At the bottom of the page, you will needto enter a series of letters and numbersdisplayed as an image. This is a securityfeature designed to make sure an actualperson, not a program, is filling out theform.

Once you’ve entered the requiredinformation and checked the box toagree to the terms of service, click onthe Register button.

On the next screen, you will addDelicious buttons to your web browser.These buttons will make it easy to postto Delicious whenever you come across aweb page you want to bookmark whilesurfing the Web. The Delicious websitewill detect the browser you’re using anddisplay instructions for installing thebrowser buttons for that browser. To seeinstructions for installing the buttons onother browsers, click on the links at thebottom of the page. Click on Proceedonce you’ve set up your web browserbuttons.

The nextscreen will provide stepby stepdirections for importing your existingbookmarks from your web browser. Youcan click on Skip at the top the page tofinish setting up your account withoutimporting your existing bookmarks fromyour web browser (this will be coveredlater in this guide).

On the next screen you should see a“Registration Complete!” message on thescreen, along with a button for savingyour first bookmark.Most of your work on the Delicious websitewill involve using the following two areas of the interface:
The Navigation Bar appears at the top of each Delicious page and has pulldownmenus for accessing and managing yourbookmarks, tags and network.
The Action Box is a blue square thatappears in the upper right corner of eachDelicious page and includes the mostcommonly used tasks for the current page. 
Posting
There are two ways to save or post abookmark to delicious: by saving it on theDelicious website or using special webbrowser buttons.To save a bookmark while you are on theDelicious website:

Click on the Save a new bookmark link inthe Action Box.
2.
Enter the URL of the site you want tobookmark and click on Save.

Delicious
(http://delicious.com) is a website that allows you to save your bookmarksonline so that you can access them from any computer with an internet connection.Delicious also supports importing bookmarks from most web browsers, so if you alreadyhave a collection of bookmarks on your computer you don’t have to start from scratchwhen you set up a Delicious account. Once you have added bookmarks to your Deliciousaccount (either by posting or by importing), you can use tags and bundles to organizethem into categories. Delicious also makes it easy to share your bookmarks. You can builda network of other Delicious users you want to share bookmarks with, or you can use thebuilt-in RSS feeds to share your bookmarks with anyone on the Web.

On the next page, enter a title and abrief description of the site in the Notestext box.

Enter the tags (keywords) you want toassociate with the bookmark in the Tagstext box. Tags will make it easier to findthe bookmark later. They should beseparated by a space (do not add acomma). If you want to create a tag withtwo words, use an underscore (such associal_bookmarking).

Check the box next to “Do Not Share” if you want to save the bookmark as aprivate bookmark only you can see (moreon security later in this guide).

Click on Save to add the bookmark toyour Delicious account.To save a bookmark using a browser button:
1.
Open the URL of the web page you wantto bookmark using your web browser.
2.
Click on the post to delicious button inyour browser’s toolbar (the appearanceof the button will vary according to theweb browser you’re using).

This will open a page where you can addyour notes and any tags you want toassociate with the bookmark (it is thesame window you would see if you weresaving the bookmark on the Deliciouswebsite).

Click on Save to add the bookmark toyour Delicious account and return to theweb page.While you are saving a bookmark (either byvisiting the Delicious website or using yourbrowser buttons) you will see two tabs at thebottom of the screen. These tabs display listsof tags you can add to your bookmark. Toadd a tag from one of these lists to yourbookmark, double-click on the tag.The Tags tab is organized into the followingsections (click on the disclosure triangle tosee the tags in each section):
Recommended: tags suggested by deliciousbased on the tags you and other peoplehave used.
Popular: tags other people have used totag the page you’re bookmarking.
All my tags: shows all of your tags in a tagcloud. The darker the color of the tag inthe cloud, the more pages you’ve savedwith that tag.
Tag bundles: shows your tags organized bybundles (the delicious equivalent of folders).The People tab shows the people in yourDelicious network. To share a bookmark withsomeone on your network, double-click ontheir name on this tab to add a special “for:”tag that includes their Delicious user name.
Importing Bookmarks
To import your browser’s bookmarks intoDelicious:
1.
Click on the Settings link at the top of any page Delicious page, then underBookmarks click on Import/UploadBookmarks.

The first step is to export yourbookmarks from your web browser into afile. At the top of the page you will seedirections for how to do this. Thesedirections should match the web browseryou’re currently using, but you can clickon a link to see directions for other webbrowsers.

Once you have saved your bookmarks in afile, click on the Browse or Choose Filebutton and locate the bookmarks file onyour hard drive.

By default, the “imported” tag will beadded to your imported bookmarks, butyou can add other tags by typing them inthe text box. For example, you couldorganize your bookmarks by browserusing each browser’s name as a tag.

Using the radio buttons, set a privacylevel for the imported bookmarks (publicor private) and choose whether or notyou want to let Delicious add populartags.

There is also a radio button for handlingduplicates. Make sure this is set to “Onlyimport bookmarks I don’t already have”so you don’t overwrite your existingDelicious bookmarks with the ones beingimported from your web browser.

If you have a lot of bookmarks it maytake a while for the import to complete.Check the box at the bottom of the pageif you want to receive a notificationemail once the import is completed.

Click on Import Now.
Viewing Your Bookmarks
To view your bookmarks, click on Bookmarkson the navigation bar at the top of anyDelicious page. This will display a list of yourbookmarks. By default they will beorganized by date, with the most recentbookmarks appearing first. To view olderbookmarks, scroll to the bottom of the pageand click on the Next link. To see more

bookmarks on each page, click on thepulldown menu next to Showing at thebottom of the page and choose a highernumber than the default of 10.At the top of the bookmarks page you willsee several tools for changing how yourbookmarks are displayed:
The Tag Bar: allows you to filter yourcollection using tags.To use a tag as a filter, enter the tag namein the tag bar and click on the arrow to theright of the text box. You can filter bymore than one tag. To remove a tag froma filter, click on the X next to the tagname.
The View buttons: these buttons changehow much information is displayed for eachbookmark.The middle button is the default view andthe left button shows only a list of yourbookmarks without the notes. The rightbutton shows a more detailed view thatincludes the full URL of the web page.
The Sort pulldown menu: allows you to sortyour bookmarks by date or in alphabeticalorder. The Reverse Sort option allows youto reverse the order in which thebookmarks are sorted.On the right side of each bookmark you willsee the tags you have assigned to it as wellas the number of people who have also savedthat same bookmark.The blue box surrounding the number of people who have saved the same bookmarkwill be get darker and wider as more peoplesave the same bookmark, letting you know ata glance the popularity of a web page onDelicious.Each bookmark will have an Edit and aDelete link. To delete a bookmark, click onthe Delete link, then choose Yes. To changethe notes, tags or title saved with abookmark, click on the Edit link, change theinformation as needed, and click on Save.
Exploring Delicious
To see a list of the most popular bookmarkson Delicious, choose Bookmarks > Popularfrom the navigation bar. To the right of eachbookmark’s title you will see a Save link.Click on this link if you want to save one of these popular bookmarks to your owncollection.To see a list of the most recent bookmarkssaved on Delicious, choose Bookmarks >Recent from the navigation bar. As with themost popular tags, you can save anybookmark listed in the Recent page byclicking on the Save link to the right of thebookmark’s title.To view a tag cloud showing the most populartags on Delicious, choose Tags > Explore fromthe navigation bar.The popularity of each tag will be indicatedby the tag text size (the more popular a tagis the bigger the text). The tags you have incommon with everyone else will show up inblue in the tag cloud. You can click on any of the tags in the tag cloud to see the latestbookmarks saved with that tag.To see a web page’s history on Delicious(including all bookmarks, notes, and tags forthat page’s URL), choose Bookmarks > Lookup a URL. Next, enter the URL of the webpage you wish to look up and click on thearrow to the right of the text box. On thenext page, you will see a History tab listingthe bookmarks for that URL on Deliciousorganized by date. Each bookmark willappear along with the Delicious user name of the person who saved that bookmark and thetags they used. The Notes tab will show youany notes saved on Delicious for the URL youentered.
