My Different Roles in Life Answer activity in page 38

At our Baptism, each of us is given special roles. Through these special roles, each of us shares with others the gifts that God has given us.

JESUS BAPTISM: Priest, Prophet and King

At Jesus Baptism, the Holy Spirit came upon Him. A voice was heard saying, You are my Beloved Son, with you I am well pleased. (Mark 1:11)

This anointing by the Holy Spirit established Jesus as Priest, Prophet and King.

As a Priest: He made the sacrifice no one else could. He gave up His life

As a Prophet: He delivered Gods message of love and forgiveness, truth and justice.

As a King: He cared for and served all the people. He is the ServantKing.

THROUGH OUR BAPTISM: We share in Priestly, Prophetic and Kingly Roles of Jesus

In Baptism, we are anointed and sealed forever in Christ. To be anointed is to be blessed with holy oil. The seal of Baptism marks our union with Christ. This is why we receive Baptism only once.

WE ARE A

PRIESTLY PEOPLE.

Jesus is the one, true priest.

Jesus calls all baptized to share in His priesthood the priesthood of the faithful.

How can we share in the PRIESTLY ROLE? Pray daily. Participate in the Holy Eucharist. Perform acts of sacrifices. Offer our lives to God.

WE ARE A

PROPHETIC PEOPLE.

Prophets defend the truth and

work for justice, proclaim the Good News and give witness to the truth of Christ.

How can we share in the PROPHETIC ROLE? When we speak the truth about Jesus. When we act fairly and just.

WE ARE A KINGLY PEOPLE.

Jesus reign is not a rule of a

country. It is to make Gods love present and active in this world. Jesus is a servant-king. He is a leader that serves others.

How can we share in the KINGLY ROLE? Care for others, especially the poor and the suffering. Encourage others to say Yes! to Gods love. Speak and act properly.

We Respond How can I live the three roles of Jesus in my life?

BIG QUESTIONS
Why do we receive the

Sacrament of Baptism only once? Why is Jesus a Priest, a Prophet and a King? How are we priests, prophets, and kings through Baptism?
