Don't worry, my heart is still intact. I'm not sure if the students were demotivated. I think that it was simply how thay worked. Maybe the kind of school and the expectations as regards the role of the teacher shaped this lesson and the way they interacted. The students seemed to participate as much as their sleepy selves allowed them.

Pls allow me to break your hear, Maria! There's not such a thing as "effortlessl hard work" ;-P!! Talking seriously, I've really enjoyed reading this report of yours. As I went through it, I wonder: was the class actually demotivated, or did they find this way of working comfortable? It's interesting to notice at times students' expectations quite differ from teacher's standards, you know... The same applies to signalling: were there any instances where a lesson breakdown (even minor) was caused by a student/students being unable to "follow the flow"? Answering these questions would help us discrimate between ways the lesson could be enhanced (which is always a possibility) and actions that you believe should be taken ASAP in order not to hamper students' progress... Keep it up! Gladys
