Credit Requirements for Promotion and Graduation:
Promotion Requirements:
Students earn 1 credit for passing a year-long class, and half a credit (.5) for passing a semester-long class.
To be promoted from 9
th
to 10
th
grade:
Students must have earned 4.0 credits.To be promoted from 10
th
to 11
th
grade:
Students must have earned a minimum of 10.0 credits.
Students must have at least 2.0 credits in Global History.
Students must have at least 2.0 credits in English.

English credits are earned in the following courses: English, Speech and Composition,Journalism, Reading/Writing, Critical Reading, or other English elective courses.To be promoted from 11
th
to 12
th
grade:
Students must have earned a minimum of 16.0 credits.
Graduation Requirements:
KIPP NYC College Prep offers five different diplomas:
KIPP NYC College Prep Advanced Regents Diploma

25 credits plus 9 NYS Regents exams
KIPP NYC College Prep Regents Diploma

25 credits plus 5 NYS Regents exams
Advanced Regents Diploma

22 credits plus 9 NYS Regents exams

22 credits plus 5 NYS Regents exams

Only selected students with Individualized Education Plans approved by KIPP’s specialeducation department and the NYC Committee on Special Education are eligible for theLocal Diploma.
