Neptune – The Other Blue Planet
The planet Neptune is the eighth planet in our solar system, and is nowconsidered to be the farthest one from the sun (as Pluto is now no longerconsidered to be a planet). Named after the Roman god of the sea, Neptune (theRoman equivalent to the Greek god Neptune), because of its distinct blue color. The planet Neptune was first observed by the great ancient astronomer Galileo butmisrepresented it as a star in his drawings, mostly in part because his telescopeisn’t powerful enough to discern the planet’s disc shape. The bright blue color of the planet Neptune is broughtabout by the absorption of allthe red light rays by the hugeamount of methane gas that isin the planet’s atmosphere, butthe reason behind what givesthe clouds in Neptune thatbluish hue is still unconfirmedas of yet.Neptune’s discovery wasactually predicted bymathematicians Le Verrier and Adams, who independently made calculations onwhich area in space they think Neptune was going to be; but it was Le Verrier, with the help of the astronomer Johann Galle, who first discovered the existence of planet Neptune. You can actually see the planet Neptune using binoculars and if you knowwhere to look, but if you want to see something more than just a speck in themiddle of space you would need a pretty powerful telescope. Just like the othergas giant Saturn, Neptune also has rings that orbit the planet, 6 of them in fact; it’s

just that these rings aren’t very visible because they are made up of dark coloredmatter. The existence of the rings were just confirmed rather recently thanks to thepictures sent by the satellite Voyager II whose last stop in its tour of the solarsystem was Neptune. The planet Neptune also has multiple moons, 13 of them in fact, and two of these moons are actually inside one of the broader rings that surround the planet. As of now, 13 moons are found to be orbiting the planet, but it is theorized thatthere might be several more moonsthat are just waiting to bediscovered. The largest of Neptune’s 13moons, Triton, has an orbit that isthe same as the planet’s rotation, bringing forth a theory that it wasnot originally a moon of Neptune. Itis conjectured that Triton mighthave been a planetoid that was justcaught up in the planet’s gravitational pull eons ago.Being the farthest planet from the sun, Neptune has the largest orbit of theeight planets. Its orbit is so large that ever since it was first discovered in 1846, theplanet Neptune has yet to complete one complete orbit around the sun. It isestimated that one year (meaning one complete orbit around the sun) in Neptune,is equivalent to 146 years here on earth. And because it is so far from the sun, Neptune also has the coldest climateout of all the planets. Found out to be more than -200 degrees Celsius in someareas, it makes the South Pole look like a tropical paradise in comparison. These are just some of the interesting facts about the other blue planet in oursolar system. You can dig up some more facts about Neptune in your local libraryor in the internet.

Want to Gather More Information AboutNeptune? Here's How To
Even if you are not an astronaut or a professional astronomer, if you areinterested about the other blue planet in our solar system, Neptune, there are a lotof sources where you can get information about it. There might be a number of reasons why you would wantinformation on the planet Neptune, like you would need it becauseyou’re making an amateur sciencefiction movie and you want to getthe details right, or you just want toknow just so you can satisfy yourown curiosity. Good news! Thereare a lot of sources of informationthat you can consult with.Maybe you’re wondering whythe planet Neptune is also blue like the Earth, maybe you’re thinking that Neptuneis covered entirely by water; Hence the name Neptune, but the reason why it’s thiscolor is because of the planet’s atmosphere. Neptune’s atmosphere is composedmostly of methane, and because methane absorbs most of the red rays of light itreflects only the blue part of the light, making the planet take a bright blue color. If you want to find out just how Neptune really looks like, as well as theother planets, you can use the usual sources of astronomy information. Go andcheck out the books in your local library for volumes that tackle about thisinteresting blue planet. Aside from books you can also get great information tidbitsover the internet, just type in your query about Neptune in any search engine and
