NAC Chair updates – Jodene
Green Republic still planning to develop at San Carlos and Sunol. At least two years out fromgroundbreaking. They will continue to setup town hall meetings to establish communicationwith the surrounding communities and get further feedback on their proposal. Park space andtraffic is still a main issue.

The letter writing movement regarding the eyesore of the PAL building on Park Ave is makingits rounds within city hall, need to continue to apply pressure for city action.
Shayna Hirshfield, Environmental Services Dept Office of Sustainability
Shayna’s office is implementing a grant for outreach and education classes throughout thecounty.
Right now they are giving away a CFL bulb in exchange for a pledge to change fromincandescent light. The office is also distributing information around energy savings rebateincentives.
Note that CFLs contain mercury and need to be taken to identified places such as OrchardSupply or Home Depot for proper disposal.

Online permit database has been down for a couple days, and couldn’t provide an updated listfor the meeting.
The Abyssinia Market on 394 Bird has requested to be on the Sept Delmas Park agenda toprovide a presentation for Conditional Use Permit" (Reference File Number CP08-007) to allowthe sale of alcoholic beverages (beer and wine).
Regarding the Green Valley Republic proposal on Sunol/San Carlos, nothing has yet beensubmitted to the planning dept.
Regarding Delmas Towers, Kathy Sutherland met with the development group and talkedabout downsizing the property (middle of the block only) and discussed a sloped design of 3 –7 story buildings. Eventually another formal meeting will occur to get community approval.
Art Nino - Update to the Housing improvement Grant Program
A total of 5 applications have been submitted (5x$25K=$125K) from the $200K budget. Thereis still an opportunity to knock on more doors in the neighborhood.
Michele Beasley, Field Rep for Greenbelt Alliance
For 50 years, Greenbelt Alliance has worked with local communities and partner groups to helpsecure long-term protection for more than 1.1 million acres of open space, establish urbangrowth boundaries around 26 cities and five counties, and endorse the creation of 60,000homes within existing urban areas.
The main reason to come to the Delmas NAC meeting was to find out more on the SNIs, andhow her organization can collaborate with the local NACs to “protect local spaces and createvibrant places.”
