A Group gains points by: o Everyone is speaking o Volume is kept to a reasonable level o Group stays on task o Group progresses

through the problems during the class period o Group answers each others questions before asking the instructor o Group is polite and respectful to each other An Individual gains points by: o Explaining their reasoning; Thinking out loud o Answering their group members questions o Letting other members of the group share their answers and answer problems o Being polite and respectful to each other o Accepting that their answer may be incorrect and listening to their group members o Asking Questions A Group loses points by: o Only one person talks; only one person works on the problems o Group working individually and silently (you can do this at home, not in class) o Volume becomes too loud conversation can be heard across the room o Group stops working o Group goes off-task (non-mathematical conversations, working on other work, etc). o Some members of the group are isolated or excluded; Not everyones voice is heard An Individual loses points by: o Being rude or disrespectful to their group members o Not participating in the activity o Doing another group members work (instead: help that group member do the work themselves) o Refusing to explain their reasoning or accept that their reasoning may be incorrect (Its okay to be wrong its how we learn)
